Column: How many things are Americans going to apologize for, like Bob Bennett did.
By Sujeet Rajan
NEW YORK: Are some Americans stupid to support, and vote for Donald Trump? The answer, I’m afraid, is a resounding yes. And if there really are enough stupid Americans who vote for Trump this November to actually get him elected to the White House, then the world will know America as a stupid nation.
And not just that. The world will know America as a befuddled, racist nation who willingly let a rabid bully into their sanctum sanctorum, to wreak political, social and diplomatic havoc with his almost schizophrenic tendencies and aggravations; cheerily gave a free hand to a brash demagogue to tear asunder in a few months the respect the world had for America and Americans.
Allowed the onset of cataclysmic trade wars, which like a boomerang would destroy hundreds of thousands of American jobs. Gave a warm thumbs up for Trump to denigrate and humiliate Muslims, keep his finger taut on a nuclear button to terrorize those world leaders who don’t bow to him on the international stage, begin an arms race the likes of which the world has yet to see.
And worst of all, gave full permission to shred the beautiful fabric of diversity America has benefited from and enjoys, which is the real envy of the rest of the world. Make pariahs of people of color, especially Latinos, Blacks and Browns.
It’s not a question of liberals not liking Trump. Most conservatives in the Republican Party know it too in their heart of hearts, detest and dislike Trump – some at least, like Speaker Paul Ryan, has the guts, heart and conscience to say it, balk at endorsing him; refuse to answer the question whether Trump is ‘qualified’ to be president. Hedge for time to reconcile himself to the prospect of not throwing up looking at vomit.
Envisage a generation full of Trump clones who would talk, behave, and tweet like him; a misogynist who has talked publicly of lusting after his own daughter Ivanka Trump, insinuated he wanted to sleep with her when she was a teenager; sexualized his one-year child Tiffany on a TV show, saying she’s got her mother’s legs, wondered if she would have breasts like her mother, his daughter from then-wife Marla Maples. Is it OK for Trump to call most other women not in his own coterie of billionaires, ugly and fat? Are Trump voters going to be immune to shame and disgrace? Do they have any self-respect left?
But the GOP continue to tolerate Trump, embrace him in larger numbers as he is after all their presumptive presidential nominee; desperately hope that the spoilt, uncouth, loudmouth brat that Trump is, will shift gears once he becomes ‘mature’, transmogrify into an ‘adult’ in the Oval office, not want to hobnob with the likes of North Korean evil dictator Kim Jong-Un. Dennis Rodman can sell his soul to whomsoever he wants to, for money or worse. One doesn’t expect the president of the United States of America to do the same.
Here’s the bad news, especially for those who vote for Trump, and hope for change: It’s not going to happen folks! Mr. Trump is going to be 70 years soon. At that age to expect somebody to change dramatically his ways, beliefs and mannerisms would be akin to white supremacist and former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan David Duke converting to Buddhism, donning orange robes of a monk. Since Trump and Duke know each other, the latter having endorsed the former, they have a thing or two in common.
William Saletan, the author of ‘Bearing Right,’ describes Trump as ‘a sectarian arsonist, a threat to the Constitution, and a war criminal in waiting,’ writing in Slate.
Warren Farrell, the father of the men’s right’s movement in the US and the author of one of its foundational texts, ‘The Myth of Male Power’, is quoted in Mother Jones saying of the businessman: “Trump is the quintessential example of the immature man and men at their worst.”
The Democratic frontrunner for nominee Hillary Clinton put it bluntly and succinctly, speaking to CNN, of Trump’s proclivity for abrasive talk and behavior: “Divisive and dangerous”, and “unmoored”. She mentioned Trump’s recent attacks on British politicians, especially the Mayor of London, his call for the United States to back away from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and his assertion that more countries should have nuclear weapons.
“(It) adds up to a very troubling picture,” she said, adding, “I know how hard this job is, and I know that we need steadiness as well as strength and smarts in it, and I have concluded he is not qualified to be president of the United States.”
The two key features of Trump’s campaign so far which has appealed to his supporters the most, apart from machismo and reality TV star status as an entertainer – get your money’s worth for attending one of his rallies, get your quota of going-out entertainment for the week, to say – has been his rhetoric against illegal immigrants – to deport at least 11 million of them, build a 1,000-mile wall on the southern border with Mexico (reduced from earlier 2,000 miles), which he has said to cheers, will be paid by Mexico. The other has been his call to ban Muslims altogether from the US, barring Americans, heads of state, some other privileged people – read rich and famous. London’s new mayor Sadiq Khan has already refused that ‘kind’ offer by Trump, criticized the proposed move. Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron has been a staunch critic of Trump.
That 2-point rhetoric by Trump won over many white school dropouts and degree-less Americans, poorly educated, who work at jobs that don’t pay enough. They loved his ‘straight’ talk. Sure, many comedians have made a mark on Comedy Central by their straight talk too, replete with profanity, racist humor. It’s just that they will never make the grade to be president of the USA.
Many of Trump’s supporters have disdain for immigrants. The racists love Trump’s positions, as Duke himself pointed out. The racist Caucasians who love Trump, feel their hearts swell with pride when they hear him talk. In Trump’s vision of ‘Make America Great Again’ they can envision a country full of white people again. The other colored folks, as far as they are concerned, could drown in the Gulf of Mexico, be shunted to the far reaches of Mt. Everest. Something has to give, right?
But as the euphoria over Trump beating his other rivals to get to the top of the GOP totem pole has subsided, comes more careful scrutiny over the improbability of his proposals.
The New York Times pointed out that Trump’s plan to deport 11 million illegal immigrants would follow the example of the military-style roundups authorized by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954. The initiative, known as Operation Wetback, expelled hundreds of thousands of Mexicans. Critics now say that strategy would in present time amount to the US becoming a police state, to break down doors at night without warrants, have all legal residents walk around with papers to counter frequent stops in public.
The American Action Forum, a conservative-leaning research group, calculated the cost of the federal outlay of deportations to be at least $400 billion, and then only if the deportations were stretched over 20 years.
But it’s not just the cost. Michael Chertoff, who led a significant increase in immigration enforcement as the secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush, said its’s unrealistic, reported the Times.
“Unless you suspend the Constitution and instruct the police to behave as if we live in North Korea, it ain’t happening,” said Chertoff.
Another complication, as the Times point out, is that a nearly 50-year-old treaty between Mexico and the United States prevents any construction that obstructs or diverts the flow of the waterways. The wall, in other words, could not interfere in any way with the flow of water in either direction. Less water for Texas can ruin the state’s economy, make it go bankrupt, especially in times of drought.
It’s also getting clear that Trump’s rhetoric to parley with Kim Jong-Un and bar Muslims is beginning to make his top supporters squirm, feel uncomfortable.
Speaking on CNN, Sen. Jeff Sessions, perhaps the one person Trump trusts the most in his campaign, said of the proposed meeting with Jong-Un: “Well, you just have to be very careful about that. I think it’s unlikely that something good will come out of it, but to attempt something like that might be worth the effort.”
NBC reported Rep. Chris Collins of New York, the first House member to endorse Trump, backed off several of Trump’s most prominent policies, including his proposed wall.
“I have called it a virtual wall,” he said. “Maybe we will be building a wall over some aspects of it – I don’t know.”
The most telling response to Trump’s divisive role as a wannabe wrecker-in-chief of America, to castigate religion, came from Bob Bennett, the three-term former Republican Senator from Utah, who died recently after he lost his fight against pancreatic cancer.
The Daily Beast reported that on his death bed, Bennett called his son and wife over, and asked them: “Are there any Muslims in the hospital?” adding, “I’d love to go up to every single one of them to thank them for being in this country, and apologize to them on behalf of the Republican Party for Donald Trump.”
It was not an isolated incident for Bennett. Earlier, on Christmas break, as he traveled from Washington to Utah, according to his wife Joyce Bennett: “He would go to people with the hijab [on] and tell them he was glad they were in America, and they were welcome here. He wanted to apologize on behalf of the Republican Party.”
His son, Jim Bennett, told the Daily Beast: “In the last days of his life this was an issue that was pressing in his mind… disgust for Donald Trump’s xenophobia. At the end of his life he was preoccupied with getting things done that he had felt was left undone.”
The question for America and the voters who support Trump is: how many times are you going to apologize, and for what all, if Trump is in the White House? Imagine on your travels overseas, are you going to be seeing the sights, or becoming a sight yourself, being laughed at wherever you go, ridiculed for electing Mr. Donald Trump as president.

Indeed, a total YES… not everyone but at least a majority are ignorant and stupid and they are confirming it nicely in the 2020 elections.
tell this ass to eat shit
Is that the best response you’ve got to the article?? The last paragraph is mostly true – the rest of the world is laughing at you but they pity you too because you fall hook, line and sinker for the con. Trump doesn’t care about Americans – not one bit. He said “it is what it is” about the number of people dying from Covid-19. Have a look around the world to see what real leaders do and say – they protect the people to stop them from dying. America has the highest death rate and the reason is so simple – it’s the failure of leadership from Trump. He does not care. Why vote for someone who doesn’t care about you or your fellow Americans?? You have only two choices in the upcoming election – vote for Biden or don’t vote at all.
Yes, Americans are stupid ( yourself one of the many). To support a liar, thief, incompetent, socialistic, do nothing like Hillary. You’re so dumb it’s nauseating. 8 years of this sick, America hating , socialist of a pygmie in the White House wasn’t enough for the brain dead as yourself! You don’t deserve the democracy you supposedly earned… You’ll learn the hard way… Good for you but not for the innocents who suffer under your leftist, politically correct and sociopathic political ideology. Indeed, you and the millions like you have a mental disorder; one that will most likely kill you ( in more ways than one ) when and if this miscreant Hillary wins this election. But leftists like you have no self respect or any respect for others… So what do you care?
Presumably you must then be a billionaire who doesn’t pay any taxes or a Russian plant?
Presumably wrong. Presumably, you pay no taxes at all, or on food stamps or welfare (or you pay you’re fair share, which ironically, is good and should not bother you). In that case you are simply another envious human being who cant take care of your own needs! Maybe you would prefer a socialist country where everyone is the same and shares income with miscreants who do nothing; Such a great contributor to our society, workforce and country!
There is as much chance of a Trump supporter listening to truth, or growing a brain as there is getting of them off their fat, lazy, drunk asses long enough to register to vote. They are lost causes. All that matters is that Trump is a white male. They insanely think he cares about them. Let them go to hell with their Dicktator savior. Luckily for them the intelligent people of this country really do vote, not just talk crap.
Russia and Trump — Isn’t the actions of Trump treason? Why would he and his family betray their country for power? Is this the American way? And yet he criticizes others for their actions. Just what is wrong with him? Where are his morals? Does he have any idea how this makes all Americans look? Russia??? Inviting hacking into America’s email? He is inserting foreign countries into our politics and our very lives. He is allowing Russia to choose our leader. Is he a traitor? I feel that he has no idea just what he has started. And so it begins. Will his family legacy be that of traitors.
If trump gets in other countries will think of us as a joke and treat us accordingly. If hilary gets in, her being a woman, the countries that believe women are second class citizens won’t even allow her to be at meetings. THey can and will do that. Either way here we lose
To tell you the truth I don’t like either one of them. I am however shocked this world has so many people who do not actually listen to the people talking like trump. If they listened they would be shocked at the things he has said knowing that he wants people to be dumb to swallow his b s. This country is great but it won’t be for long if that fool gets in. Never ever vote for a people who has all his life only thought of one person and that is himself.
I don’t think I could respect anybody who would vote for trump. I can’t believe America would let him get as far as he has. This level of intolerance is crazy this day and age
This article is crap!!❕ Trump does not know David Duke. He’s not a racist because he’s going to enforce federal law. The Mexicans who came here legally have nothing to fear ‼
Some Americans stupid to vote for trump? Also, if he is elected the world will look at us as a racist nation? So if Hilary wins we will not be a racist nation, right? Let’s look at this country. Who is racist here? Is it the white people??? Yes, along with every other nationality. I am Hispanic and I did my research. I also heard and noticed things personally throughout my lifetime. There are always people within their culture that prefer to be with their own and at the same time would dislike other culture, some to even dislike even more. A good number of Hispanics overall dislike black people most. Korean people in most cases dislike Hispanics, in most cases Mexicans and above all blacks. You think we have a flourishing diversity? Yes, but with a lot of hateful groups. There is so much to talk about but just don’t have the time. Presidents don’t make racist countries, it all starts with guidence within families and a lot of them do not teach respect, only hatred. Again, that is not limited to white people.
Let’s look at the Indian governmental model. Oh, that’s not fair? I don’t see headlines of American women raped to death on buses like there has been in India.
Many are reading this with the ad blockers meaning you don’t get paid for your taj mah hall load of BS.
Loose weight.
“This is what he will do! Americans are stupid to vote for him!”
———————
I put it to you that Americans would be more stupid to vote for Hillary. She has absolutely no morals whatsoever. Usually, when your upbringing does not instill in you morals, you learn them from coming into contact with people who have morals. This appears to not have happened at all to Hillary.
She cares not one whit for you or anyone. The middle class has suffered under Obama and will suffer more under this person who is misogynistic against her own gender and proved that when she teamed up with her husband to attack the women who accused him of sexual depredation.
It’s sickening to see people act like she doesn’t have deep issues of her own, and even deeper issues than Trump has.
Stop talking get to the point! You are right but make it clear enough that the unaware can understand.
Alex, you really should have listened more to your teachers, English grammar for one. And what kind of wall would that be? With machine guns, trapping and killing those that would want to escape. (it may very well be Americans!) Did not one of the supposed great republicans say to “Tear down that Wall?” Ah, how the pendulum swings, particularly with those that have short-term memory.
Your an idiot. The last 8 years have been the worst for all Americans. A President that does what ever he wants by Executive Order. A President who claims to have fixed the economy put it is only growing at 2%, and the true unemployment is still high if you take in to account those who are under employed or just quit looking for work. Hillary will be 4 more years of the same thing. No one in the world respects or fears us because of Obama and Hillary is part of that legacy. I don’t agree with a lot of what Trump is about but anything will be better than 4 more years of Obama. Hillary is dishonest, a liar and in it for herself and the power she will gain not the American people. Your article is total bias and liberal. There is nothing racist about not wanting illegal emigrants into our country wherever they may come from. As far as deporting illegal emigrants they are here illegally and should be deported and follow our emigration law to be allowed into our country. There is nothing racist about wanting a better vetting system in place before we allow thousands of Muslims into our country.
Socialism is an ideal, that can with gracious hearts be incorporated into our democracy, which is already embracing many of these ideas – not all as some would believe. The fact that you put in to Social Security as a failsafe for aging, yes, PUT IN, or how about paying for education through home taxes, I have never had children, but pay for the betterment of all. As a business woman, yes, a business woman, I have stood on my own for 64 years so far, but see nothing wrong with democracy, except the overwhelming greed of capitalism, those that can readily go into Bankruptcy for their Failed businesses (Trump – 5 and counting) or all the other dirty dealings that go on behind gilt doors. Good luck morons.
Under the current administration the IRS and EPA have been used as weapons against regular US citizens. Americans are stupid if we don’t vote to stop those kinds of abuses by the government. A President with integrity would investigate and prosecute according to the law, wherever the facts went, without concern for politics. That is NOT Barack Obama and NOT Hillary Clinton.
You know whose face should be on a $10 bill? Elliott Richardson. He was an American hero.
Unfortunately, just read many of the posts here. Most of the idiots are really too stupid to even reply to further. If no one has ever watched John Cleese’s piece on Stupidity, please do so. It explains much! Youtube it.
If you want to be taken care of by the government you have to vote democrats who will take your money and tell you to apply for the benefits to get stuff for free(if you qualify). If you are independent individual that can take care of themselves and think on their own – you want as much of your income and make your own decisions how to spend it. As a business owner and US Customer spending oriented economy we need people with as much disposable income to spend it on our products.
There are clear lessons to be learnt from history about social expariment with socialism. Venezuela being the latest example, but after WWII you had Germany split into two territories with a wall between them – There was not a single person climbing over that wall from the West!!!! East germans lost 40+ years of development under Soviet Union and socialism!!!
So calling Trump voters Stupid is just ignorance on your part!
The proof is in the pudding now unless you still believe what you said back then. Maybe you don’t understand what Diane was saying?? She is saying that you already live in a socialist society and adding to that most democracies in the world will say they are a socialist democracy even if they’re run by a right-wing party including the republicans (it was one of Trump’s calls to protect Social Security and Medicare – he did later float the idea of cutting it).
On the subject of supporting Trump – he has made it so abundantly clear that he does not care for Americans (the complete fail on the response to the coronavirus, he did nothing about the bounties on the American troops, the extreme number of lies he tells – the list could go on forever). Trump is a lying, bullying conman.
So if you vote for Trump, it’s a vote against your self interest. And if you don’t see it like that, then you’ve been conned – it’s that simple.
I hope you don’t think you represent Indian opinion. The reason people are voting for Trump is that he is not bought, and can therefore without influence look out for his own country’s interests better than a shill like Clinton. How anyone thinks Clinton will look out for American citizens when she nearly receives the yearly salary of a president in one speech from goldman is beyond me. Trump is by no means ideal, but the whole point is that business interests cannot influence him as they can other candidates, as he has no dearth of money whatever his real worth is. Looking out for American interests can and should include punishing firms that outsource jobs or hire foreign workers only to increase profits, IF you are looking at the interests of american citizens first. People also see their other option, a conniving politician who should be indicted for deleting “private” emails, that could allow her to hide information during the raid of the embassy in Benghazi that got an ambassador killed. Those emails could have incriminated her or at least hurt her election chances. As far as his comments go, they are quite brash and I don’t think an outright ban on muslims is going to help stop terrorism. Yet, Clinton is a third Obama term and that is far too undesirable.
If you are a racist, don’t care about decimating foreign policy, have your finger on the “NUCLEAR BUTTON”, and are dismissive of WOMEN”S RIGHTS, by alll means vote for TRUMP.
Just so you are all clear on my recent post: Those that have bought into the Trump phenomenon, are truly stupid. No doubt about it. You don’t read, check statistics, and could be conned at a simple Monte game, sheep with no wits about you. Lemmings, follow your leader, please.
Right to the point of all the current inanities. Great, first we were just the “Ugly Americans,” now we’re the Ugly and Extremely Stupid Americans. Great job to those that are so “whiny and unhappy”, who don’t understand what we do have, simply do not deserve to live here and deign to call themselves Americans.
Finally, someone who dares to write the truth.
Thank you Mr. Rajan, for a very well written article.
So many Americans are stupid, racist, thin-skinned and insecure. That is why Trump fits them so well, he is all of those things.
His supporters are saying they are fed up of being lied to by the political elites, but Trump lying to them constantly is for some reason just fine.
I do however still believe most Americans are not: stupid, racist or that easily manipulated, and that common sense will prevail, and the next president will NOT be named Donald.
The problem I have is with the old guard establishment and the thrashing the middle class has taken over the years. I would agree Trump isn’t the answer but Clinton doesn’t work ether so we are screwed again. America is too Liberal with everything having to be politically correct. I also have a problem with people who come to America and don’t embrace the American culture. I am an American and only want to speak English in my country. We have been pushed to far that is why Trump will win
Not sure if Hillary wrote this article or little Barrack.
Some would say that the ‘power of stupid’ first appeared when Obama was elected in 2008 so why the big surprise that perhaps that phenomenon will be repeated in the 2016 election.
Now who is stupid, Sujeet? Could it be, thee?
Donny (Draft Dodger) has only told the truth 12% of the time on his campaign trail. 88% of everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. Even Nixon released his tax returns while under audit during his campaign which makes Donny less trustworthy than Tricky Dick. He follows the same GOP beliefs of fear, hate, bigotry and racism which is why he loves the uneducated. He is a scam artist who has been sued more times than you can count. ( Donald Trump has been named in at least 169 federal lawsuits, according to a LawNewz.com investigation) Looks like he will spend more time in court than running the country. He has angered our allies while Russia and China laugh at his remarks. We need a president that can’t pronounce Tanzania yet alone find it on a map. His new manager supported and lobbied for terrorist countries for years and collected big money in doing so. He moved his manufacturing offshore and claims to be pro America. If you don’t like his answer today, wait till tomorrow , it will be different. Mr. self funding is now in the pockets of the people he railed against. Picture him in front of the GOP witch hunt committee for 11 hours and see how much dignity he shows. He can’t make it through a simple 2 hour debate without folding like a cheap lawn chair. I won’t even get into his views on women, which according to him look best on their knees. Yep, he certainly seems presidential. Just sayin.
All I have ever seen is Obama lecturing the American people and continuously putting the American people down. Can anyone cite anytime the President has had praise of the American people if so weigh that against the amount of times that he told us how miserable we are.
I see no change from Hillary who’s political stance is whatever is popular for the day (thus all the backtracking)laughing at us while she and Bill line their pockets. I did not see anything from the establishment Republicans that would cause me to vote for anyone else. I am witnessing the sham of the Democratic National committee and their rigging of the electorates by the lopsided super delegates that refuse to honor the voters decisions only their cronies. Now I am lectured by an apparently over-educated nobody who most likely has never created anything that would produce jobs. You are calling me stupid? That kind audaciousness is exactly why people are supporting Trump. We are sick and tired of the con game we are currently locked into.
Not stupid! I have no doubt that Trump will be a lousy President. However, given the choice between two dismal candidates, I’d rather suffer 4 years of Trump than 8 years of Hillary.
And the intelligent choice is what? Voting for a someone that no one likes, no one trusts (including her supporters), has a history of making bad and questionable decisions, someone with a proven terrible record on foreign policy, has no good accomplishments to run on, very questionable ethics (and thats being very very kind), and list of negatives goes on. You think that is intelligent? You have invalidated your own opinion and cast much doubt over your own intelligence. Im not voting for Trump but its very tempting to give the establishment of both parties the middle finger they deserve.
phrases like this ” lusting after his own daughter Ivanka Trump, INSINUATION… he wanted to sleep with her; … mother’s legs…..” speaks of guess work, lack of sociological/psychological depth. When a person has so much ego and power and strength, he/she can say weird things like this. It happens in every society/culture where rich successful people make strange statements. That does not mean insinuation leading to things.
American rich 1% politicians all want war, irrespective of democrats or republicans. They use media’s hire internet savvy young graduate/writers without any maturity to extrapolate these insinuation to throw a FEAR tantrum/game onto anyone who speaks the truth on saving economy without war. Political correctness is used to attack these new thoughts. Sure Trump is a weird person, but the ideas he throws out SCARES the 1%. Trump is not a racist if you read his history. he also PROMOTED lot of women. A person has positives and negatives. His ideas may not be practical as Sanders. But he says what he has to say as an independent, who can finance himself. Others need Goldman Sachs and WallStreet.
There are no republicans and democrats , but very SCARY 1% ruling rich who OWN the media to push these character assasinations / insinuations to create SMOKE-Mirror to hide the facts.
As a moderate conservative I do not like Drumpf. He isn’t Presidential material, but then again, who is? I don’t believe we have had a good President since Thomas Jefferson or John Adams, both Statesmen who while ancient in their views, believed in a democracy because they experienced the hardships of being under British rule. Drumpf knows nothing about being average or simple and the associated hardships. He is one of those people who are born with a gold spoon in their mouth. He is the 1% and the same 1% which people voted against when the voted Obama in to office two consecutive terms. People are finally tired of all the BS of the US government. They are tired of Senators and Congressional representatives who are in office for 10, 20 or 30 years and get nothing done and retire with great, guaranteed retirements. They think that voting for Drumpf is a vote against the tyranny of the US government for the last fifty years. Unfortunately the facade that Drumpft is putting up for the public to see is a game. It is his attempt to put his name in to history rather than being a footnote. To have his picture painted then put on the wall of the White House and to have a Presidential library and to write is memoirs. However, how much better is Clinton? There isn’t much to like about her either. She plays the same game the Drumpf does but she doesn’t do it as good as he does; she isn’t that good of an actor. With all that is going on in this world, with all the BS from other governments, no one has the right to call us stupid – including the author of this article.
I am surprised by the comments I am reading here. The amount of blatant racism is actually embarrassing me. The reason why the United States has evolved into such a great country is that it has always been a melting pot. We attract the best and the brightest from all around the world and with our combined talent, we strive to achieve impossible goals. Blockading Muslims from our country and exporting millions of immigrants is not the answer. Regardless of all this, Trump himself is a bullshit artist. An uncanny majority of what he says cannot be done, or is simply untrue. America is furious with the establishment and is acting out by voting Trump into office. I do worry about our international relations with Trump as President, but we live in a 3 branch system. His power wouldn’t be absolute, and would be checked by Congress and the Judicial system if he does anything unconstitutional. I believe in our country, and will support whoever wins the office this November. No I would not call America stupid, but I do believe Rajan got the reaction he was looking for with his editorial.
This hit piece against the American people and Trump ignores the reality we now exist in.
We have been betrayed by both elitist parties that serve only themselves and their corporate overlords. Our country & government have been sold out to the highest bidder. The WTO, NAFTA, GATT (and soon, the TPP) have forced the majority of us into perpetual poverty.
President Trump would be a welcome relief to the lies, deception and betrayal. His motto, “America First”. What a concept. And I say this as a lifelong registered voting Democrat that will vote for Trump against the globalist agenda to keep us as modern-day serfs.
This doesn’t mean We The People are stupid, or racist or hateful…in fact, millions are finally waking up to the truth and are ANGRY and sick and tired of the lies and BS.
There is nothing we need to apologize for. We’ve been lied to long enough.
Nice comment. I usually don’t support a party. I couldn’t say it any better than you. Two thumbs up!!
Thanks, I believe many Americans are seeing the farce of our “two-party” and how they are two sides of the same coin. I know I have finally realized it and I’m mad as *ell!!!
I vote for who I feel is best for the U.S.. Right now, as a registered Democrat, I feel that it is Trump. He is a businessman running President (Like Gov. Chris Christie of NJ. Christie took on big business and politician and saved NJ from a deep financial crises. Trump will close loop holes and stop the export of Jobs (Why don’t you say something about FORD building a Plant in Mexico for making parts, of which 98% will be coming to USA. At same time FORD will slowly be closing its opposite in USA. Say something about those JOBS we will be losing! No! PEOPLE VOTING FOR TRUMP ARE NOT STUPID! THE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT VOTING FOR TRUMP ARE STUPID ONES!
Thank you for your article. You demonstrate more love for America and for the American people in a few paragraphs than Trump has shown in 70 years. Please keep up the good work.
Only Bernie beats Trump.
To the author. Ok College, it’s not “stupid”, it’s a talent for simplicity. C’mon buddy, this is day one stuff around here.
At the start of my day I liked Indian people.
Its interesting to me that the media hasn’t figured out that a rapidly growing number (millions) of americans don’t care what the media, and their contributors, regardless of your size, have to say anyone more.
Your creditably is all but gone. You are becoming just an entertainment source. Your biases have become so obvious that it has become a joke. Calling americans stupid regardless of their leanings just demonstrates your destain for anyone who disagrees with you.
Those who disagree on a particular issue with the media are either a bigot, stupid, ignorant, un-educated or simply ill informed because our opinions don’t agree with yours. We don’t have the pulpit to call you an idiot, I guest the best way is to just stop watching or listening to you. This is often on both the left or right side of the spectrum.
Because its fresh in my mind and because I have, at least in the past, been a news junky and switch from channel to channel to see different views. I am withdrawing because its become total BS. I just watched Carol Costello on CNN and it is SO obvious her bias with her smirks and how positions question etc. that she is one of those that if you disagree with her position you are obviously an idiot.
The media is committing suicide and perhaps its for the best!
There is no objectivity!
I’m just saying…
Well I sincerely do not appreciate being called stupid and it makes me more likely to vote for him than it would’ve if you had left the insults out of your statement
I will not ever vote for that criminal scumbag Hillary Clinton. If that only leaves Trump then Trump it is. You may call it stupid i call it a smart decision voting for the lesser of two evils
The stupid people are the ones who voted twice for Obama. Where’s your article on that?
‘Hatred is the shadow of the lazy mind’
The scary part is how many christians support trump’s views (lower case used on purpose),
Wow a bigot trying to tell someone a bigot. That is sweet. Well your one vote will not elected a president. Calling millions of Americans names is not what this is about. Freedom of speech. So you have yours I have mine
Judging by the list of reasons offered by people voting for him, then yes – they seem to be stupid answers – however I doubt the answers given by the opposition would be any different.
I’m with Winston Churchill on this i.e. spending 5 mins with the average voter makes you see the problem with democracy (mind you the founding fathers knew that which is why the USA is not a proper democracy)
Not half as stupid as those voting for Hillary!! She is with out a doubt the worst possible choice of anyone that has ever run for the office of President! If she gets elected You can kiss the Economy ,”Whats left of it” Good buy!Let alone your Health care! If the GOV. does not fix our Screwed up Health care system Very Quickly You will have to become your own Doctor and Litterly take care of yourself!
Beware America! BAD TIMES WILL BE ON THE HORIZON!
Only cats litterly take care of themselves.
Is this tripe supposed to change minds? If so you should be ashamed of your position and title. What’s next? Flinging your self on the floor and screaming? Or something even more sinister, like threatening to move to Canada. AdiosMF.
BRAVO! A great article – well written and points made very eloquently. The Donald is a celebrity, bully, loud-mouth and reminds me of the saying “But the emperor has no clothes!”. Of course, most of his supporters would not be that well informed as to the cultural arts of our country to recognize that quote. Maybe Donald should chose Bernie Sanders as a running mate because they both seem to have the same marxist-socialistic views.
As a long time supporter of Obama and Clinton, I like what Trump is saying about jobs, the economy, involvement in other countries etc. Maybe it is time for a change. I personally have been hurt these last 6 years with my career destroyed (CPA), at 60 years of age no job…screw it from my stand point it cannot get any worse. And millions of others Dems, Ind, Repubs feel the same way. What I hate is the Republican establishment. If Trump were running Independent, which I am, then it would be a slam dunk. He claims to be a Republican, but with people like Bush, Romney, Bill Krystal and Rove and establishment against him he clearly is not. The Tea Party I despise and that included Ted Cruz and little Marco Rubio. So what is Trump? He is a New York Democrat liberal, in some ways, but conservative in other ways. What ever he is he is attractive to many people of all parties and that sounds good to me.
Believe me, I’m completely sympathetic to how you feel. I get it. Hillary doesn’t seem like she understands anything outside her little best student in class world. But Trump is talking about doing things that would make our economy much worse. Tariffs, money printing, defaulting on debt, all kinds of crazy stuff. What are we to do?
You want to know what stupid is? Obama supporters are so stupid that his advisors have actually admitted that they depend on that stupidity to support their positions, e.g., Obumacare and the Iran deal. LMFAO
Yep. Keep’m coming. They say one should be judged more by one’s enemies than his friends. If for no other reason than the list of his enemies, I’m firmly supporting Donald Trump.
Rewrote your article for you:
Are Americans stupid to support, vote for Donald Trump?
Yes.
Good response, professor. You just supported his premise by providing an example of what he’s talking about.
I am not going to vote for Mr. Trump… however I understand why people will….
He is a business leader and has experience making business work. the other side has two people that have never held a real job.
Why will people vote for Mr. Trump – because they see what is going on in Venezuela
I could win buzz word bingo with the writers use of liberal catch words and catch phrases
Stupid, you say? What are our choices, a Man hating criminal Dyke vs. a crazy business man. Hum mm , think I will take my chance, hold my nose and vote Trump.
The only stupid person in question is the author of the article.
Thank you for writing this article, and keep them coming. I don’t know who all these people are who are voting for The Donald, but they are really not understanding that the man will turn his back on the middle class faster than Hillary already has.
The Donald has already lied to the middle class. He got everyone on his bandwagon by saying he would break up the big banks, and well, now that they have so much money to give him, well, they’re not so bad and don’t need to be broken up.
So, essentially, a vote for The Donald a vote for putting the big banks in the Oval Office. Is that what the middle class really wants/needs? Aren’t the big banks why we lost our homes and are now working for unlivable wages?
Why are we voting the big banks back into the White House?
Is an Indian person stupid when he writes things like that about millions of Americans who vote for Donald Trump? To paraphrase Mr. Rajan: The answer, I’m afraid, is a resounding yes.
Oh…did the article HURT your FEELINGS? Poor, Ivan. You must really be smarting. You even attacked the author’s RACE.
Oh Pali, do you understand the difference between race and nationality? Or, are you just playing the race card? If you must know, I have two Indian grand kids. No feelings have been hurt because Americans must like it being called stupid in large numbers. Namaste!
Couldn’t agree with you more.
Love it.
So defending the rights of Americans against a terrorism is stupidity. Other countries also wants to protect their citizen against terrorism. So i don’t understand why you will label people who wants to vote for Trump. He didn’t say ban all Muslim forever. It is only temporary until we can find out who they are. So stop bending the truth. Give the guy a chance to govern if he wins.
Yes, because Trump is “against a terrorism” – unlike all the pro-terrorism candidates.
The guy is good at two things: feeding red meat to angry, uncritical white male voters and wading into slap fights with 3rd-tier celebrities.
HL Minken, no one ever went broke under estimating the intelligence of the American public
Mr Rajan is very short sighted to call americans “stupid” who support Trump. One has to read american history and political shift by republicans in last 30 years, creating a void . Trump kind of characters fill this void. Instead of saving the republic, the republicans became so greedy shifting themselves into neo-cons and attacking other countries listening to “israel first” crowd. Republican party is almost lost into greedy neocons. you need to read diffrent authors and thinkers like chomsky and pat buchanan, watch american history/philosophical shift resulting in lack of jobs, cultural deprivation, diminishing middleclass. This article talks about incidents, not ideas and philosophies that shaped american politics. Very shallow. Trump is an expression of american public , an outburst of all the void . Even a communist / socialist like Sanders is very popular.
The only way Americans will ever have a choice is when there is a “None of the Above” option on the ballot
To paraphrase: he’s not a member of the poltical elite establishment, which disqualifies him for the office and all those who think otherwise are stupid. Yawn. When is it going to dawn on you group-thinkers that what you complain about is precisely why he will be elected president. Sujeet Rajan, you and your fellow travelers are so out of step you actually think you are leading.
No, we’re not stupid, we’re sick and tired of lying Indian nationals taking our jobs on H1B visas. First, you lie to get the job, then you pay a lawyer to lie to get the job, then you take the job away from a US Citizen. Doesn’t matter to you if he or she is a disabled veteran. Keep calling people stupid and you’ll be swimming in the Ganges before the month is out.
Typical leftist tripe. Disagree with anyone and they are stoopid. Never a rational discussion or debate, just name-calling and pejoratives. As far as the Muslims, if you haven’t figured it out already, they play the long game. The only way to stop the long game is in the Now. You can not wait for the long game to play out, because then it is too late. Until the leftists understand the long game, we are doomed.
Obviously mr Rajan doesn’t like Mr. Trump.
Americans aren’t stupid as he supposes. I have a terminal Graduate Degree and I support Trump. I am aware of many highly educated people that support trump.
If Mr Rajan doesn’t like America he can go home to what ever country he originates from.
I don’t think Democrats are any better educated than any other group of Americans. That particular approach is just a smarmy bullying attack against Americans that disagree with mr Rajan’s slanted point of view.
Democrats aren’t anymore educated than the Republicans they just want to pretend they are so that they can make pompous statements against those that disagree with them.
Americans are stupid to support any of them but we don’t have another realistic option. Never has the lesser of evils been more applicable. Vote for whichever of the candidates you believe will do the least damage for the next four years and hope there is a better option in 2020.
Sounds your H1-B visa is about to expire. Have a nice trip home… Get a kick out of your fellow countrymen that come here spouted bogus credentials from your homeland… NPTEL is world leaded university?. Ba bye
American’s would be stupid not to vote for him. Your totally bias liberal article shed little light on anything except your extreme left views. This is strictly a rage piece because you realize that Clinton and Sanders may both be what it takes to give Trump the Presidency.
Hope you like inflation!
Well said!!!!
Sujeet you ought to go back to your unsustainable native country . you are the most disgraceful analytical of American politic period .
Call me stupid. Trump 2016!
I know people who will vote for Trump. They are white and Evangelical, and oddly, I’m afraid to say, several are public school teachers. I think they are watching too much Game of Thrones or something. It’s like they want to go back to Iron Age tribalism, and they see Trump as their clan chief. It’s pretty contemptible.
Wow, you must be a liberal. Anyone who doesn’t agree with you must be too stupid to breath.
People like you are the reason so many of us want somebody who isn’t you or your type in office.
Have a nice day.
Which type is that? Your racism fly is down.
Mr. Rajaan,
With respect;
Your narrative in which you blatinly insult the majority of the American populace whom have clearly cholsen Donald Trump as their next President, does nothing but very evidently expose fully in the open that you are either; very effectivelly indoctrinated and brain washed by your corporate masters, or just sold yourself out to them, or both. Let me assure you, that the people you call stupid are far from so, and many of them highly more intelligent that you will ever be.
Its amazing that this stupid Indian editor is calling the american people stupid. So if the american people are stupid as he suggests then he’s an idiot.
Yes, Americans are incredibly stupid.
I guess he should be president of india.
What gives you the right to call half of the country stupid? If you don’t like Trump, that’s ok. And you can apologize as much as you want. I won’t.
I won’t call you stupid because you support Hillary. Even when in my opinion, she should be in prison.
You Sir are an idiot
