Sanskrit is considered as one of the oldest languages in the world. But still, it is considered as a dead language or one with no growth, mainly because of the insignificant number of people using. But, a video of a Sanskrit research scholar singing the Sanskrit version of the Dheere Dheere Meri Zindagi, a famous song from the 1990 movie Aashiqui is going viral on YouTube.
Pankaj Jha, a research scholar in Sanskrit grammar at the Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, has replaced the lyrics of the Hindi song with Sanskrit words with the same meaning.
“I came upon the idea in class. A student wanted to know if Sanskrit dealt only with old stories and shlokas. I told him there were songs as well. The kid then challenged me to render a Sanskrit version of the recently released song Dheere Dheere Se Meri Zindagi by Honey Singh. I translated the entire song in the class,” Pankaj told Hindustan Times.
But, the idea of recording the song came to his mind only after a gap of many years. “When I came to Delhi, I realized the potential of the Internet and found the means to arrange for a studio recording,” he said.
Hailing from a family of priests in Deoghar, Jharkhand, Jha is going ahead with his career goals though he has received some offers to make some albums.
