The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday informed the Bombay High Court that its team has ruled out murder in the Actor Jiah Khan Death case.
“The CBI has no reason to protect the accused (actor Sooraj Pancholi) in the case,” Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh told a division bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice Prakash Naik, Times of India reports.
As per its investigations CBI also said that the cause of Jiah’s death was ‘suicide by hanging.”
The high court asked Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan to draw a list pointing out anomalies, if any, in the probe made by police and CBI into the death of her daughter. The Court also said that it will decide on the plea by Rabia Khan on August 23 and continued its interim stay on the trial against Sooraj, Jiah’s boyfriend.
Rabiya had claimed that her daughter was murdered and sought the transfer of the case to a Special Investigation Team.
Jiah Khan’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house in June 3, 2013.
Sooraj Pancholi was arrested on the charge of abetting her suicide on June 10, 2013 and was released on July 2, 2013, after the high court granted him bail.
CBI dispelled the theories of someone had entered the flat from an open window and the distance between the fan and the floor did not support the case of suicide. The agency said there was no proof to show that someone could have entered the flat.
The high court had transferred the case to CBI, and in December 2015, the CBI filed a chargsheet against Sooraj for abetting Jiah’s suicide. Rabia then moved the high court again alleging the CBI had not looked at crucial evidence.
