Fourth edition will see roundtable of CEOs.

WASHINGTON, DC: The fourth U.S.-India Energy Partnership Summit, “Stimulating Technology, Trade and Development,” organized by The Energy and Resources Institute- North America (TERI) and Yale University, will be held here on May 13-14th.
Nobel Laureate and TERI President and Director General Dr. R K Pachauri , said in a statement that the Summit “provides a platform for addressing the growing challenge of energy security faced worldwide and by the US and India in particular.”
Pachauri pointed out that recent developments in the US, including the exploitation of shale gas reserves and other technological achievements as well as India’s efforts in the field of renewable energy provide a unique opportunity for the two countries to work closely together in solving their respective energy problems, and enhancing energy security for the world as a whole.
In a press release, the organizers said the Summit will also see a high-level CEO Roundtable on May 13th to discuss ‘The Energy and Development Nexus: A new era of corporate leadership.’ It will provide an opportunity for corporate leaders from both countries to discuss, develop insights and new perspectives on how cooperation between the two countries on energy issues can lead to competitive advantage in domestic and global markets. The key-note address will be delivered by Dr. Sam Pitroda, , Chairman, National Innovation Council and Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovations. FICCI will facilitate the participation of Indian CEOs at the Roundtable.
Former vice President Al Gore will give a special address at the ‘Eve of Hope’, the curtain raiser of the Summit. The proceeds from the evening will go toward TERI’s global campaign, Lighting a Billion Lives (LaBL) which endeavors to provide clean lighting and cook-stoves to remote corners of rural India and other countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa that have no access to electricity.
Dr. Annapurna Vancheswaran, Vice President, TERI, who has been coordinating the Summit since its inception in 2009, said, “it is really heartening to see this Summit growing stronger and intense with each year in participation and content from the two countries. Given India’s potential growth trajectory coupled with opportunities and challenges, this year’s Summit deliberations will be of significance not only to the two Governments, but to business leaders of the two countries as well.”
A central novelty at the Summit this year will be the focused Parallel Thematic Tracks, which will allow for discussions in depth and detail on niche topics. The themes identified are Driving Energy Efficiency Technology Innovation; Women and the Green Economy; and Empowering Energy Entrepreneurs.
Some of the eminent personalities who have confirmed their presence at the Summit Nirupama Rao, India’s Ambassador to the US, Prof. Richard C Levin, President, Yale University; Ambassador Robert Blake, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, U.S. Department of State, David Sandalow, Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs , U.S. Department of Energy, and Daniel Poneman, Deputy Secretary of Energy, U.S. Department of Energy.
