NEW YORK: The disaster hit area of Uttarakhand in Himachal Pradesh continues to get aid in rehabilitation efforts, with the latest being Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC), who has announced a United Way Worldwide grant of $100,000.
The money will be disbursed under the aegis of the International Donor Advised Giving Program, which enables Wells Fargo to provide grants to local nonprofit organizations in the communities outside of the United States where its team members live and work, said a press release issued by the company.
Wells Fargo also is temporarily waiving all remittance transfer fees for ExpressSendÒ transfers from a linked checking or savings account for customers sending money using the ExpressSend service to friends and family in India impacted by the floods. The fee waiver is effective until July 31. Additionally, the company is also mobilizing team member contributions across its India businesses, said the release.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the individuals and families affected by the recent flooding,” said Daniel Ayala, head of Wells Fargo Global Remittance Services, in a statement. “We hope that our contribution will help assist with the relief and rebuilding efforts and that our customers will take advantage of our fee waiver to send support to their friends and families back home.”
During the week of June 20-26, heavy rainfall in the Uttarakhand region led to extensive flooding, landslides, and destruction to property and lives.
