MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Irrfan Khan, Anil Kapoor, Om Puri, Tabu, Anupam Kher. What do they have in common? The Hollywood connection.
Joining that ever growing list of Bollywood stars in Hollywood productions, is chirpy actress Juhi Chawla. She has been signed with Oscar winning director Steven Spielberg for his upcoming production The Hundred-Foot Journey.
Currently shooting in Mumbai, the film is being directed by yet another Oscar winner, director Lasse Hallstrom, with Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake donning the hat of producers.
The film is based on Richard C Morais’ bestseller by the same name and casts Helen Mirren, Om Puri and Juhi Chawla in leading roles, with Chawla playing the role of Om Puri’s wife.
The film revolves around the travails of an Indian family, who settle down in a village in France, and open a business: an Indian restaurant, right across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant run by Madame Mallory, played by Mirren. The ensuing culinary war is what gives the film momentum.
The film is scheduled to go on screens on August 8, 2014.
Chawla, 46, a former Miss India, made a startling debut in 1988 with the hit romantic film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, with debutant Aamir Khan, which for many critics remain one of the best films made in that genre.
Over the years, Chawla has starred in many other hit films, including Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), which earned her the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
