MUMBAI: 2013 proved to be a promising and a successful year, both on silver and small screen, for Bollywood’s Majnu Bhai, the popular screen name of Anil Kapoor.
The year started with a bang, Race 2 (26th January) that performed superbly at the box office making it the first film of 2013 to enter into the 100 crore club. Next was the action flick, Shootout at Wadala (3rd May), the sequel to 2007 hit Shootout at Lokhandwala, which garnered huge footfalls at the cinema halls, declaring it a blockbuster.
It was followed by his Hollywood connection Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol from the superhit Mission Impossible series starring Tom Cruise. Post this, the actor turned to TV with the Indian adaptation to American version of ‘24’, on Colors channel.
Kapoor said, “This year, I learnt some more self-discipline. I learnt to eat well, exercise properly and think only positively. I also learnt to be patient. That has helped me in finding my bearings even better in life. Work-wise, besides 24, Race 2 and Shootout at Wadala were successful. Race 2, I feel could have been a much bigger hit. I hope the team works more hard on Race 3. Also, I would like to thank the film industry and to my fans for having me around for thirty years. Time has just flown by. Today, I feel I am just starting out.”
The actor has a busy 2014 calendar in addition to breezing through a successful 2013. Anees Bazmee’s Welcome Back will be the first to be added to his growing film list. Next in line is, No Entry Mai Entry, again directed by Anees Bazmee, which will be followed by Zoya Akhtar’s next untitled film. Industry sources reveal that frequent trips to Los Angeles are on cards to pursue his career.
In a similar fashion to 2013, Anil Kapoor will take to TV again with the second season of 24, which he plans to set in Dubai. The news was confirmed by the star himself stating, “Yes, we will bring 24 to Dubai very soon. Dubai is very cinema friendly. There is a lot of security, great locations, cars and roads. That is why so many people come to shoot films here.”
24, the original American version, starred Kiefer Sutherland as Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer. The rights were acquired by Anil Kapoor from US Fox Network to remake into Indian version and made its debut on in October on Colors Channel.
