MUMBAI: Unlike most of the Hindi films which easily get distributed over 1,500 screens in India; this figure was untouched for a Telugu film till date, not even close to it. Now, the record has been set by superstar Mahesh Babu and Kriti Sanon starrer Telugu film ‘1 Nenokkoddine’.
Eros International, which has taken worldwide distribution rights for Rs. 72 crores for the film, except for the Karnataka territory, has released the film in more than 1,400 screens in India and close to 250 screens internationally. A total of 1,000 screens out of those 1,400 are in Andhra Pradesh alone. These statistics makes it the widest Telugu film distributed across India and overseas.
RNR Films, which has acquired the distribution rights in Karnataka for Rs. 4.5 crores, has reportedly booked all the screens across the state, according to Chennai-based entertainment industry tracker, Sreedhar Pillai.
Produced by Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta and Anil Sunkara under their 14 Reels Entertainment banner, the film has opened in all the four south Indian states – Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu; and UK, USA and Canada. The action psychological thriller will also be dubbed in four other Indian languages – Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali and Tamil. The dubbing in these regional languages will begin only in second or third week of February.
The makers of the film have also chalked out a phased plan to release it in other international countries like Fiji, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the entire Gulf region in the next six months with subtitles in at least eight to nine foreign languages.
The film, made at a whopping Rs. 75 crore budget, the most expensive Tollywood movie ever made, has recovered approximately Rs. 90 crores from its pre-release avenues. It includes satellite rights sold to Gemini TV for Rs. 12 crores, the Hindi language rights for Rs. 4 crores, worldwide distribution rights by Eros for Rs. 72 crores and audio rights for close to 2.9 crores.
Despite the huge hype and massive distribution plan, the film received mixed response on its first day and collected Rs. 8.4 crores in Andhra Pradesh. The film which was expected to break the first day Andhra Pradesh box office collection of Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Attarintiki Daredi’ failed to surpass the Rs. 10.75 crore set by the latter.
