MUMBAI: Film director Sanjay Gupta is well known in Bollywood to churn out action-crime thrillers like Kaante (2002), Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) and Shootout at Wadala (2013), all of which proved to be massive hits.
Post Wadala, the director is already juggling between the schedules of his upcoming two films, Mumbai Saga and Khotey Sikkey. Now, looks like Gupta has to juggle with one more film in between the existing ones and this one’s all the way from Hollywood.
The filmmaker has been approached by a Hollywood production house to direct a woman-centric film, which will be a remake of a hit foreign language film. The news was confirmed by the director himself but chose to remain silent on details like the name of the original film or co-producer.
He said, “I am contractually bound to not reveal the details. All I can tell you is that it is a thriller like many of my previous films. But while the others were male-centric, this one has a woman protagonist and two important male characters. These guys approached me after seeing my body of work.”
The film will also be Sanjay’s co-production in addition to him directing it, which will be in English and Hindi languages. As per Sanjay, actors like John Abraham, who is his close friend too; Abhishek Bachchan or Shahid Kapoor can be roped in for the two male characters, but side-lined on the topic of the female lead.
Earlier, the director had planned to finish both his big-budget multi-starrer films back-to-back this year, before this offer came his way. The Hollywood film might just shift the completion of Khotey Sikke to a later date. He intends to complete the Hollywood film in a single schedule of 35-60 days in Mumbai itself.
“It is a universal theme with a taut screenplay that can be easily adapted to the Indian scenario. It won’t take me long to write it. I just need to work on the dialogue. It’s such a thrill to be finally doing a woman-centric subject in Hollywood”, the filmmaker said.
