MUMBAI: When actor Aamir Khan made his debut on small screen in May 2012 as host for the show ‘Satyamev Jayate’, the audience saw a star who came down to the level of a common man, who took up sensitive grass root issues; from female foeticide to child sexual abuse, untouchability, domestic violence.
After the overwhelming success of the first season, the actor is all set to host the second edition of the show, beginning March 2nd, that will focus mainly on atrocities on women. The slogan of the new season stands as ‘Jinhe Desh Ki Fikr Hai’ (one who cares for nation).
Promos currently being aired on TV channels bring out other topics too which Khan takes on, like ratio of Indian voters and non-voters, obeying traffic rules and the bystander effect, meaning a situation where people walking down street are hesitant to lend a helping hand for those in dire need. The trailers also bring out the pain on Khan’s face with respect to such atrocities.
Aamir Khan Productions, the banner producing the series, has researched for over a year on various topics, for making a total of 13 episodes. The Delhi gang rape case of December 2012 had kept the makers of the show in discussion for a long time so as to focus on women centric problems as their central theme for the upcoming season.
The production team had also researched and collected a sizeable amount of other such horrific cases; met families and victims for their reactions and included the new amended rape laws. According to industry reports, the team has thought of even inviting the parents of December 16 gang rape victim on the show.
The entire format of the show has been redesigned differently, which Khan doesn’t want to disclose it now. As happened in the first season, the new edition too has the actor breaking down in tears while shooting for some of the episodes.
