The Consul General of India in New York, Ambassador Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, read out excerpts from the address of the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, on the eve of the Republic Day in New Delhi.
In his remarks, the Consul General commended the Indian American community for its contribution to the growth of India-US relations.
He also addressed several issues faced by the community and appealed to them to work closely with the Consulate to sort out their difficulties. He informed the audience about the plans of the Consulate to hold two flagship programs: Media India, and State-by-State India, this year.
The program saw a poetry recital by Ramana, and a cake cutting ceremony.
The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations here also celebrated the Republic Day of India with the hoisting of the national flag by the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Asoke Kumar Mukerji.
In an address, Mukerji said the early reform of the UN Security Council continues to be a priority for India. Pointing out that India has contributed significant resources to maintaining international
peace and security, he said India would seek re-election to the Human Rights Council, this year.
