WASHINGTON, DC: Former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the US, Aneesh Chopra, has launched a new start-up company called Hunch Analytics, in the suburbs of Washington, DC.
Chopra, 41, is a co-founder of the company, which officially debuted in October of last year and is currently picking up steam as it gathers clients and makes a name for itself. Details about the company are somewhat sparse, with Chopra telling The Washington Post that the company is still in “stealth mode,†but the company’s website sheds some light as to what Hunch Analytics does.
“Hunch Analytics empowers leaders in industries such as healthcare and education to utilize newly liberated data sets for faster, fact-based decisions about their organization,†says the website. “Our proprietary algorithms and decision-engines are built by mashing up public and private databases to help organizations optimize productivity and profitability.â€
The company was funded privately, by “prominent investors in the data analytics space.†In addition to the healthcare and education industry, the company says it specializes in the energy sector, too. It is based in Arlington, Virginia, located just outside of Washington, DC and home to several top-tier government buildings and contracting firms – most notably, the Pentagon.
Chopra is most famous for being President Barack Obama’s appointee as the first CTO ever in US history, an office he held from May of 2009 through February of 2012. Chopra oversaw a number of tech-related policies and initiatives in the federal government before leaving that position to pursue another.
He ran for election to become Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor in 2013, but lost the primary in June. Had he won, it would be his second governmental position in Virginia’s government, after having served as the state’s Secretary of Technology from 2006-2009.
Born in New Jersey, Chopra holds a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and an M.P.P. from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
