WASHINGTON, DC: Entrepreneur and business leader Biju Nair has been appointed as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of eRecyclingCorps (eRC), an Irving, Texas-based company that specializes in the safe disposal and re-use of mobile technology devices.
Nair, who has more than 20 years’ worth of experience in the IT industry, will be leaving his position as the senior vice-president and Chief Strategy Officer for Synchronoss Technologies, Inc. Prior to that, he was the chairman and CEO of Sapience Knowledge Systems, Inc., a wireless software services company.
In addition to his management titles at the aforementioned firms, Nair has also held senior-level positions at Smith Micro Software, PCTEL, Inc., SAFCO Technologies, Inc., and Agilent Technologies, Inc. He also holds several patents, all within the domain of wireless telecommunications, which have become vital to mobile device production all around the world.
“This is an important hire for us. Biju’s entrepreneurial spirit coupled with his unparalleled technology expertise will enhance eRC’s ability to transform the wireless ecosystem,” said eRC CEO David Edmondson, in a statement. “The mobile trade-in market is evolving and growing rapidly. By continuing to attract people like Biju, who are at the wireless software industry’s forefront and bring cutting-edge ideas, we will continue to lead the industry.”
In a press release, Nair said that he is raring to go at the opportunity to help lead eRC’s technology solutions over the coming years.
“As consumers adapt to mobile innovation at an increasing rate, it’s important to consider the long-term strategies required to extend the lifecycle of the mobile device in order to divert millions of used phones away from landfills but more importantly into the hands of the remaining 65% of people on the planet who do not have access to the Internet,” Nair said. “I’m excited to work with the management team at eRC to make even greater use of current and future wireless technology to achieve this important goal.”
eRC was founded in 2009 in order to create a scalable model to repurpose and reuse perceptually obsolete devices. It has partnerships with several wireless carriers around the world to help achieve its goals, and facilitated over 10 million wireless device trade-ins globally last year alone.
In May 2013, the company set a new industry record for collections in a single month with more than 1.1 million secure wireless device trade-ins.
