MUMBAI: Bollywood director Sajid Khan is back with his latest comedic outing – the film Humshakals (“Lookalikes”), which has just launched its first trailer.
The film, set to release worldwide on June 20, features the all-star cast of Saif Ali Khan (Kal Ho Na Ho), Riteish Deshmukh (Housefull), Bipasha Basu (Dhoom 2), Esha Gupta (Raaz 3), Ram Kapoor (Student of the Year), and Tamannaah Bhatia (Himmatwala). Director Sajid Khan, the brother of Bollywood choreographer and director Farah Khan, has previously directed the two Housefull blockbusters and Heyy Babyy.
The farce will see the three male leads – Khan, Deshmukh, and Kapoor – each essay a triple role, leading to “nine times the fun.” The ambitious film shot extensively in foreign locations, primarily Mauritius, where photography took place around September of last year. The film was reportedly also shot heavily in London, which has featured prominently in several of Sajid Khan’s other movies.
The film is co-produced and will be distributed by Fox Star Studios, which was formed in a joint venture between India’s STAR media company and America’s 20th Century Fox. The latter and its subsidiaries have been responsible for some of the biggest Indian film releases of the last few years, including Slumdog Millionaire and My Name is Khan.
Humshakals is expected to be one of the biggest hits of 2014. Despite Sajid Khan’s last film, 2013’s remake of Himmatwala, flopping badly, Humshakal’s star cast and prime release date will likely make it a winner with audiences and at the box office.
