ACF, USACA come together for program.

WASHINGTON, DC: The American Cricket Federation (ACF) has announced the creation of a full-fledged cricket education program, in conjunction with the United States of America Cricket Association (USACA) and headed up by cricket coach Jatin Patel.
Patel is a graduate of Cricket Australia’s Level 2 Coach training program, and holds key positions with both the ACF and US Youth Cricket. In a statement, Patel voiced his enthusiasm at being chosen to lead the flagship American cricket program.
“I am looking forward to leading this first-ever American cricket coaching education and certification system, one that will help cricket rapidly expand in America,” said Patel. “The ACF coach-education program will make a positive impact across cricket in the USA. Cricket education and its regulation by ACF is a key step forward to better cricket ahead.”
Under the new program, ACF member leagues and academies will host at least one coach-supervised training session per year. These sessions will instruct players on the best ways to play the sport, and show them not only how to play, but what kind of gear to obtain, the rules of the game, and so on. Additionally, online resources will be made available to all interested players who are members of the aforementioned ACF organizations, and an online database of certified cricket coaches will be made available.
“As a national governing body for cricket in USA, the American Cricket Federation is properly placed to advocate a single national standard for the cricket coaching certification,” the ACF said in a press release. “ACF’s certified coaching accreditation program will also include renewals, re-certification and disciplinary enforcements.”
Although cricket has been a largely underground presence in North America for the last several decades, it is poised to make a big splash now. Intercollegiate cricket tournaments have begun popping up all over the US, and even television broadcasters are getting in on the action. Last month, ESPN showed the Twenty20 World Cup finals on its station, and plans to broadcast the Indian Premiere League (IPL) semi-finals.
