WASHINGTON, DC: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will appear on the smash hit reality television show “Duck Dynasty†next month.
“Duck Dynasty,†which airs on television channel A&E, follows the day-to-day life of the Robertson family in Monroe and West Monroe, Louisiana. Jindal will appear in the June 11 premiere of the show’s sixth season, although details regarding exactly what his participation on the show will be are scarce.
The show is rabidly popular throughout the US, with the show’s fourth season drawing in an average of 9.16 million viewers per episode. The fifth season’s finale, which aired on March 26, drew in about 6.51 million viewers in the US. Jindal has praised the show in the past for bringing jobs and attention to the state of Louisiana.
“In Louisiana, we have had success over the last six years in bringing more jobs and more opportunity to the state,†Jindal said in March, while presenting Duck Dynasty Willie Robertson with the Governor’s Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence. “Louisiana has now set state records for the number of people working, total population, and per-capita income levels. But, even as new businesses move here from other states, the backbone of our state is businesses like Duck Commander.â€
Recently, “Duck Dynasty†has fallen into controversy, after patriarch Phil Robertson made disparaging comments about homosexuals. Jindal has distanced himself from the comments, issuing a statement saying “Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the state of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with.”
Jindal’s appearance on the show may seem unusual at first glance, but Jindal has been a polarizing figure within his own state and across the nationwide political landscape. By going on a popular TV show shot in his own state, Jindal could not only gain popularity, but raise his profile as the country moves closer to both this year’s midterm elections, and the 2016 Presidential race.
For years now, Jindal has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Republican ticket in 2016. Jindal has downplayed these conjectures, but even if he doesn’t end up running for President, Jindal appearing on the ticket as a running mate is a very viable possibility.
