BANGALORE: Soch, a Pakistani young band, the music of which the Indian audience is mostly unfamiliar with, is making its debut in Mohit Suri’s ‘Ek Villain’.
Vocalist/lyricist Adnan Dhool and guitarist/lyricist Rabi Ahmed of the band Soch are among the pioneering artists of Pakistan’s award-winning reality show Nescafe Basement. Dhool and Ahmed featured in Season 1 of Nescafe Basement.
Bringing in Pakistani talent for his films is nothing new for Mohit Suri. He had earlier given Atif Aslam and Mustafa Zahid their big breaks in a singing career in Bollywood. Besides Suri, other directors and composers often rope in talent from the neighborly state to bring in richness to the finished product. The Pakistani band Strings, who are famous not only for their Bollywood songs but also for their album songs like Duur and Dhaani, have contributed to various films like Zinda, Shootout at Lokhandwala, My Name is Khan and even the Hindi-dubbed version of the Hollywood blockbuster Spider-man 2.
Singer turned actor Ali Zafar initially came in as a singer with his hit comic single, ‘Saali’. He later turned to acting and gave hits like Mere Brother ki Dulhan.
Shallum Xavier, the guitarist of Pakistani band Fuzon, had told the media: “The size of the country also matters a lot. Pakistan is much smaller in size as compared to India and there are so many places where we can perform.”
With songs like ‘Bandeya’, ‘Hamesha’, ‘Arz’, ‘Uth Jawana’, ‘Khabar’ (OST ‘Chambaili’) and ‘Jinnah’, Soch is known for its bold and thought provoking songs. The song featured in Mohit Suri’s Ek Villain is called ‘Awari’, a popular number featured in the first season of Nescafe Basement.
The video shoot for ‘Awari’ is to start sometime next week. Prachi Desai will supposedly have a glamorous guest appearance in this video.
‘Ek Villain’ stars Siddharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles with Riteish Deshmukh playing the villain for the first time. The film will release June 27th.
