NEW YORK: Popular Bollywood composing duo Vishal-Shekhar are set to take the northeast by storm, when they come to New Jersey for a heart-stopping concert on June 27.
The Titans of Bollywood concert, presented by Ariz Inc., will take place at the lavish Ritz Theater in Elizabeth, NJ.
Accompanying the rabidly popular musical duo – comprised of Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani – will also be singer Neeti Mohan, who has seen her star rise significantly over the last year and has become one of B-town’s leading female vocalists.
Vishal-Shekhar are best known as the composers of some of the biggest Bollywood hits of the last few years. After having small successes composing for films like Dus and Salaam Namaste, they hit it big in 2007 when Farah Khan hired them to compose the songs for her film Om Shanti Om.
The film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and debutante Deepika Padukone, briefly became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all-time, and launched the two musicians into the limelight. Since then, they have become one of the most highly sought-after and prolific composing machines in India, churning out chartbusters left and right.
Some of their most popular albums include Anjaana Anjaani, Dostana, Bachna Ae Haseeno, I Hate Luv Storys, Tees Maar Khan, The Dirty Picture, and Student of the Year. The two have also become a favorite of Shahrukh Khan, composing the music for his hit films Ra.One and Chennai Express. Over the course of their career, they have accumulated eight Filmfare nominations for Best Music, most recently for Chennai Express. In particular, Vishal has become a highly regarded singer in his own right, doing playback for some of the biggest singles Bollywood has seen in the last couple of years. These include songs like “Jee Le Zara” from Talaash, “Balam Pichkari” and “Ghagra” from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani,” and “Chokra Jawaan” from Ishaqzaade.
Ravjiani also has some vocalist credits to his name, but unlike his musical partner, typically only sings for his own compositions. Mohan only reached international fame and recognition in 2012, with the one-two punch of “Ishq Wala Love” from Student of the Year, and “Jiya Re” from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which earned her the R.D. Burman Filmfare Award in 2012 for Best New Music Talent. Vishal-Shekhar also won the same award in 2003, for the film Jhankaar Beats. Since then, Mohan has sung popular songs like “Saadi Galli Aaja” (Nautanki Saala), “Kashmir Mein Tu Kanyakumari” (Chennai Express), “Naina” (Gori Tere Pyaar Mein), and “Tune Maari Entriyaan” from the filmGunday, which may be her biggest and most popular song thus far (the chart-topping track also features Dadlani).
