BANGALORE: Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor are to come together for the sequel to last year’s ABCD: Any Body Can Dance.
ABCD, India’s first 3D dance drama, was directed by Remo D’Souza and starred Prabhu Deva and Ganesh Acharya, all three of whom are veteran dancers and choreographers of the industry.
D’Souza is all set to return as the director of this sequel starring Dhawan and Kapoor in the lead roles in their first ever pairing. Even Deva is returning for this project. As of now it is unclear whether Acharya too will be returning for the sequel. This film will be shot in Las Vegas with no less than 10 song and dance sequences.
“Dance has always been my passion and, through ABCD, I saw my passion come to life on the big screen. I am thrilled with the audience’s response to the first movie, and it has prompted me to make a sequel. I’m happy that Disney is supporting me to make this happen,” said Remo.
Following the success of ABCD, the producers of this film had no trouble in committing to the sequel of this film. “Last year, ABCD took audiences by storm, and we instantly knew that it was one of those movies that naturally lend themselves to becoming a true-blue franchise. Remo and Prabhu are back in action again, and we’re delighted to welcome on board Varun and Shraddha to take the franchise forward. While ABCD 2 is about great dancing, awesome music and the 3D format, it is also an incredibly emotional and dramatic story,” said Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director, Disney India.
The first look of this film released earlier this year. Like the original, the sequel too has a funky and colorful look that is surely to impress and allure a lot of audiences. The shooting for the film will begin in July this year.
ABCD was a major hit among the small budget films and grossed more than 44 crores on the worldwide market. Whether the sequel will be able to live up to that only time will tell.
