BANGALORE: Aamir Khan’s ‘Satyameva Jayate’, a social issue-based TV show, is on its way to China after Star World sold the rights to a popular production company there.
Khan, the Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood, is popular worldwide as it is. Now it seems that his TV show is gaining an international forum.
“When we did the first season of Satyamev Jayate, we got inquiries from many parts of Asia and some parts in Africa. But the country from where we saw the maximum interest was China and we have just sold the rights of the show to a production company in China,†Star India CEO Uday Shankar was quoted as saying.
However, he refrained from disclosing the name of the Chinese company that has bought the rights of the TV show and how much the deal was struck at.
The Paley Media Council Breakfast dialogue where Shankar spoke, was moderated by Bobby Ghosh, editor of Time International. James Murdoch, co-chief operating officer, 21st Century Fox, the parent company of Star India, was also present at the event.
Satyameva Jayate premiered on Star World on May 6, 2012. It dealt with some major issues that India is dealing with at the moment, like female feticide, dowry, honor killings, caste and untouchability.
The TV show took its name after the Indian national motto which translates to ‘Truth Alone Triumphs’. The origin of the motto is a popular mantra in the Mundaka Upanishad. The show’s name as well as the show’s theme is set around the deep cultural ethos of India.
