BANGALORE: The so called ‘new’ in Bollywood keeps on getting updated every few years. But what happens to the old? As it turns out, they are not so different.
Veterans of Bollywood seem to have the courage and capacity to keep renewing themselves. We have Amitabh Bachchan, who at 71, is about to make his debut in a fictional TV series. We have Rishi Kapoor who is playing a wider range of roles today than he ever did in his prime. And we have Anupam Kher who is not only releasing his new book in a few months but also he is hosting a new chat show: The Anupam Kher Show: Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai.
The 65-year-old actor told India Today that he wishes to show the very inspirational side of celebrities like him. He said, “There are many shows that are based on celebrity trivia. I wanted to do a Gets wistful about 30- year film career show that showed their inspirational side.”
The first episode of the show will feature filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and his daughter, actor Alia Bhatt. Bhatt directed Kher in his first ever film Saaransh, for which he won a Filmfare Award for Best Actor, one of the very few people to do so. The show will also have celebrities like comedian Kapil Sharma and Kher’s close friend Akshay Kumar.
Kher’s new book is titled ‘Lessons Life Taught Me Unknowingly’. His previous book is called ‘The Best Thing About You Is You!’ Contrary to popular belief or expectations both his films are more about life than about acting.
Kher admitted to India Today, “When Sawaal Dus Crore Ka (his previous game show from over 10 years ago) flopped, it was a big learning experience for me. So was the time when I fought facial paralysis. In life, attitude is more important than talent. The only way to live is by being a realist. It’s not circumstances that let us down, but our attitude.”
Kher has had an acting career of 30 years. Rarely a leading man, Kher played supporting roles through most of his career. His filmography includes more than 300 films making him one of the few actors of Bollywood with that feat.
