WASHINGTON, DC: The Washington, DC-metro area will have its very own Indian karaoke competition later this month, as the Bollywood Karaoke Contest 2014 comes to Johns Hopkins University on June 14.
The contest is open to male solos, female solos, and duets, all of whom are eligible to win “blockbuster prizes” at the event next weekend. The whole affair will culminate in a performance by Deeti and Krushana Mazumdar, who were finalists in the 2008 iteration of Zee TV’s hit singing show, “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.”
“We are giving a platform for local talent to perform in front of an audience and compete with peers,” Manoj Singh, the event’s organizer, told The American Bazaar. “Ceasar Productions is hosting the first Bollywood Karaoke Contest, [and] we are excited. It is going to be a fun event.”
Local singers who wish to compete in the show must register by Saturday, June 7, with a general application fee of $25. Admission fee for the audience, on the day of event itself – which will be at the Johns Hopkins campus in Rockville, Maryland from 2pm-6pm – is just $10. For a full afternoon of music, food, and fun, that’s a pretty sweet deal.
“We have got overwhelming response for participation,” said Singh, whose Ceasar Productions is the company putting on the event. “Anyone can come and enjoy an afternoon of live music by local talent.”
Singh, along with his wife, Geeta, founded Ceasar Productions after spending 25 years in the IT industry. The company is named after the couple’s beloved dog, who passed away in 2010. He is a prolific stage actor, and has also appeared in a number of short films. He is a member of The Natya Bharati Theatre Group and the Washington DC-Based Storytellers Short Film Club.
