BANGALORE: Vikram Bhatt’s erotic thriller Hate Story (2012) will now have a sequel: Hate Story 2, but like the other sequels of the Bhatt camp this too is also a standalone film, unrelated to its prequel.
The film stars TV actors Surveen Chawla and Jay Bhanusali in lead roles as star-crossed lovers with Sushant Singh playing the role of the antagonist. Kainaat Arora has been roped for a special appearance in this film.
“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” the thought that was the theme of Hate Story which starred Bengali Actress Paoli Dam and Gulshan Devaiya, seems also to be the central thought of this film.
The trailer of the film, released two days ago, crossed two million viewers within two days. What can be gathered about the film’s plot is that Chawla is the mistress of a local politician played by Singh. Things don’t go well for her when she falls in love and gets engaged to Akshay (Bhanusali). After Bhanusali is brutally killed off by Singh and his men, Chawla makes a resolve to avenge her lover. The general theme of revenge that was part of the previous film also seems to be continuing in this film.
Chawla rose to prominence for hosting the comedy show Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars. She also had a small role in Star Plus’s soap opera Kasautii Zindagii Ki. Later she went on to play the lead role in Sony’s Kaajjal. Having acted in small roles or cameos in Hindi films, Hate Story 2 marks her debut as a lead in mainstream Bollywood. About her bold appearance in this film, Chawla said in the promo launch of the film, “If you ask me, I am the most comfortable in my skin, today. I am extremely happy for who I am, what I am and that to me is sensuality and sexuality, not showing off skin.”
Bhanusali made his debut in Disney TV’s Dhoom Machaao Dhoom. Later he starred in Ekta Kapoor’s soap opera for Star Plus, Kayamath. He is also known for his dancing, having participated in celebrity dance shows like Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2, and Nach Baliye 5. Hate Story 2 is also his mainstream debut as a hero.
The much awaited sequel is being directed by Vishal Pandya and produced by Vikram Bhatt. The music for this film is being composed by various artists, including Mithoon, Arko, Anjaan and Rashid Khan.
Hate Story 2 releases in theaters on July 18.
