BANGALORE: Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan launched the Gaurvi Campaign, India’s first One Stop Crisis Center which aims towards protection for women, in Bhopal.
In a press conference for the One Stop Crisis Center’s launch, Aamir told the media, “I’m extremely happy to be here today, and the reason is the launch of our country’s very first One Stop Crisis Centre, which is an important first step towards protection for women.â€
Aamir, who has worked for the awareness, safety and protection of women through his TV show Satyameva Jayate on Star TV network, also said in the press conference, “Though it’s a beginning to a long term solution, it is essential for people to know that they will be punished for the crime, and they will be caught, and the centre will assure that.â€
One Stop Crisis Centre, which is a collaboration of many organisations, will soon be opened in every district of Madhya Pradesh, according to ANI. Efforts will also be made to open it in other states of the country.
The Gaurvi Campaign, a much needed endeavour by a public figure like Aamir, is not the actor’s first step towards boosting the quality of the nation and its citizens. As a figure loved and respected by many, he has made efforts through the years to help the country. Many of his films have dealt with a burning issue that the country is facing.
Rang De Basanti, a story of youth realizing their power, and Fanaa in which Aamir played a lovelorn terrorist who dies at the hands of his lover who chooses her country over him, were remarkable films. Aamir’s 3 idiots was a much less patriotic film, but the issue of young men following their hearts rather than their parents’ whims is an issue that a lot of Indian youth are dealing with today.
Other than his films, Aamir has made PSAs for Incredible India, and then there is the TV show Satyameva Jayate. Aamir’s One Stop Crisis Centre is the latest but by no means the last of his endeavours for the cause of humanity.
