WASHINGTON, DC: The Association for India’s Development (AID) will host a talk with Eureka Child Foundation coordinator Selva Ganpathy in Baltimore, Maryland, on Saturday, June 21.
Ganpathy is the winner of the iVolunteer award for the Volunteer of the Year in India, and is currently in the US for a conference related to this award.
During his talk tomorrow, Ganpathy will talk about Eureka Child Foundation’s efforts in Tamil Nadu to help villages set up sustainable infrastructures that will allow them to provide quality education for children growing up in impoverished areas of the state.
Specifically, Ganpathy will talk about how audits are carried out in more than 150 villages as part of the Eureka’s Every Child Can campaign, how it has already empowered poor parents and community members, and what the next steps are in taking the campaign to a larger group of people. Ganpathy will also discuss his experiences in mobilizing more than 10,000 volunteers across different cities in India over the past decade.
A chemical engineer by trade, Selva is currently a Technical Superintendent at IIT Madras. He has been involved with AID for more than 10 years, and was crucial in establishing a Delhi volunteer chapter for the organization. His work with the Eureka Child Foundation has won him a number of plaudits; most recently, he has been sponsored to attend the Points of Light conference on Volunteering and Service in Atlanta – the conference is the largest of its kind focused specifically on volunteering.
The talk will take place at the Johns Hopkins University campus, in the Hackerman building’s room B17. For more information, please visit http://www.aidjhu.org/selva_ganpathy_talk.
