NEW YORK: The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MKSCC) honored Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori, its Chief of Brachytherapy Service, with its Distinguished Service Award at the International Brachytherapy Symposium on May 22-23.
Nori, who is widely considered one of the top cancer treatment physicians in the US, was feted for his “outstanding contributions and pioneering work at MSKCC,” the hospital said, in a statement. Previously he was named one of the top doctors in all of America for cancer treatment, by The Ladies’ Home Journal magazine.
Originally from India, Nori completed his undergraduate coursework at Andhra University, received his M.B.B.S. degree from the Kurnool Medical College, and earned his medical doctorate degree from Osmania University, also in India. Currently, Nori is at the New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he is a professor and vice-chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. He is also the chairman of Radiation Oncology at New York Hospital Queens.
Over the course of his career, “Dr. Nori introduced many innovative cancer treatment programs for lung, gynecological, and genitourinary cancers, which have become the standard of care at the present time,” said MKSCC, in a press release.
Nori has trained over 200 residents, many of whom have gone on to become well-respected physicians and leaders in their own respective fields. He has held leadership positions in some of the biggest organizations within his industry, including the New York Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute, and the American Endocurietherapy Society. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Board of Radiology, and the Indian Society of Clinical Oncology, among several others.
MSKCC is a dedicated cancer research and treatment facility in New York City, and was ranked the #2 cancer hospital in all of America in 2013 by US News and World Report. Nori has been affiliated with MSKCC for over 30 years.
