BANGALORE: Huma Qureshi and Varun Dhawan will go back to their 90s for a song in their upcoming film, Sriram Raghavan’s next, Badlapur.
According to sources in the media, Qureshi and Dhawan’s number will be inspired by some iconic numbers of the 90s – Tip Tip Barsa Paani from Mohra (1994), Rangeela Re from Rangeela (1995) and Madhuri Dixit’s legendary number, Ek, Do, Teen from Tezaab – although to be fair that film was released in 1988, cutting very close to the 90s, but not exactly a part of it.
The 90s was one of the greatest decades in Bollywood’s history. Of course, all the decades are a period by themselves – the 70s had their long side locks and bell bottom pants; the 80s had the rawness action and romance, and the 90s had a galore of fresh faces who are still ruling the industry.
The 90s saw the emergence of some of Bollywood’s greatest heroes. Among them Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman, Saif are only a few names. On one hand, we had great action movies like Khiladi and Mohra, on the other hand there were amazing romantic films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya. To go back to that decade is not only a challenge but also a pleasure for youngsters like Qureshi and Dhawan who were only kids back then.
According to sources, Badlapur’s composer duo Sachin-Jigar have been tasked with coming up with a song that is not only catchy but also reminds the people of the 90s.
According to The Times of Indiat, Huma spoke about the song sequence,“I’ve always been a fan of the decade. I’ve grown up on a healthy diet of Bollywood films and now I’m watching chartbusters featuring Urmila Matondkar, Madhuri Dixit and Raveen Tandon all over again to get into the groove. My favourite is Tip Tip Barsa Pani. It’s sensuous and aesthetic.”
Badlapur which as the name suggests is a story of revenge and releases sometime in 2015. It also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui with whom Qureshi had acted in Gangs of Wasseypur and Yami Gautam as Varun Dhwan’s wife. Comedian Vinay Pathak will also have a role in the film. The film is being produced by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan’s Illuminati Films.
Huma reportedly plays the role of a sex worker in this film.
Badlapur is Sriram Raghavan’s fourth directorial venture after Ek Haseena Thi, Johnny Gaddar and Agent Vinod.
