NEW YORK: The Akshaya Patra USA organization has extended the deadline for its Youth Ambassador Program, announcing that it will be accepting applications from high school students through the end of July.
The Youth Ambassador Program was announced in May, and is a voluntary youth initiative for high school students across the US. The program is looking to recruit “ambitious young people from across the US to act as representatives for the organization in their communities.”
Those selected for the program will support Akshaya Patra USA fundraising and awareness efforts, and wil; build leadership, networking, and public presentation skills while improving the lives of children in India.They will receive training in public speaking, outreach and donor engagement and get tools, presentations and mentors to support them as they achieve their goal of raising $1800 in donor pledges.
“Akshaya Patra is lucky to have enthusiastic young supporters who are passionate about spreading awareness of the school meal program and helping 1.3 million children in India realize their dreams through education”, Desh Deshpande, Chairman of Akshaya Patra’s Board of Directors said, in a statement.
The program is fully backed by Akshaya Patra USA, the American wing of the Indian charitable organization. Akshaya Patra is one of the world’s largest NGO-run school meal programs and serves children in 10,600 schools across India, and uses cost-effective means that enable to support a single child with a year’s supply of meals for just $15.
Those interested in applying for the program can visit the Akshaya Patra USA website. Applications will be accepted through July 31, 2014.
