NEW YORK: Residents of Canada’s British Columbia province held a candlelight vigil on Wednesday to remember Kevin Dhillon, the teenager who died in an unfortunate motor accident on Tuesday.
Mourners gathered at Holland Park in Surrey in Dhillon’s honor, his mother having an especially hard time coming to terms with her son’s untimely demise, reports the CBC. Dhillon (16) was travelling on his motorcycle at the intersection of 96 Avenue and 123A Street when he was struck by a silver Honda Accord
The accident happened around 11:00 PM, and Dhillon was taken to a local hospital very quickly after it happened. Sadly, however, he succumbed to his injuries, and passed away that very night.
Now, Canadian police are on a manhunt for the driver of the Honda, who has been on the run since the incident occurred. Witnesses reportedly told police that the car drove on for another block or so after hitting Dhillon, at which point the driver got out and abandoned the vehicle, fleeing on foot. The driver is reported as being in his mid-40s, and was wearing a dark jacket.
A makeshift memorial has been constructed at the site of Dhillon’s accident, with family and friends placing flowers and pictures to mark the site of the young man’s tragic passing. Those who knew him described him at the vigil as someone who was crazy about motorcycles and dirt bikes, and who had a tremendous amount of experience riding them, despite only being 16.
Dhillon is survived by his parents, and also had a girlfriend, who was present at the vigil. Meanwhile, police told GlobalNews.ca that the investigation into Dhillon’s death is now a criminal case because of the fact that the driver who struck him has absconded. Information on his whereabouts, however, remains slim.
