BANGALORE: Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati will return this August for its eighth season.
Bachchan recently announced this news on his Facebook page.
“Yeh hai KBC ka naya aakaar… the new face of KBC starting in August…now been on since 2000, with a break in between and one season done by Shah Rukh Khan,” posted the 71 year-old actor.
Kaun Banega Crorepati is one of the most popular TV shows of the Indian television of all time, and definitely the most popular game show. In its wake, a lot of other game shows popped up on Indian television, like Anupam Kher’s Sawaal Dus Crore Ka, Govinda’s Jeeto Chappar Phad Ke, but none quite managed to capture the same charm.
The game show hosted by Bachchan is inspired from the UK game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and was also featured in the Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire which featured Anil Kapoor as the host of the show.
The show went on to inspire several other local language versions of Kaun Banega Crorepati, namely Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi (Tamil),Ningalkkum Aakaam Kodeeshwaran (Malayalam), Kannadada Kotyadhipathi (Kannada) and Ke Hobe Banglar Kotipoti (Bengali).
Registrations for this season’s Kaun Banega Crorepati began on May 5, using the website- www.kbcofficial.in, as well as through the official app, IVRS and the SMS system.
“Yahaan sirf paise hi nahin jeete jaate…yahan dil bhi jeete jaate hain…You not just win money here…you win hearts too…At least my heart is always won over by the contestants! love all of you,” wrote the actor to his contestants recently.
Kaun Banega Crorepati or KBC as it is popularly called is shot at the Yash Raj Films studio and will air on Sony Entertainment Television.
