BANGALORE: After the immense success of Kochadaiiyan, Rajnikanth returns to the silver screen in dual avatars in his next film: Lingaa.
According to reports, the superstar with be seen in two roles, one as a district officer who lives in a modern day setting and the other as a completely different character who will be seen in a flashback sequence.
Doing a multiple role is a cakewalk for Rajnikanth. Kochadaiiyan itself saw the superstar in no less than three avatars: two brothers and a son. He had played the same in a Hindi film back in 1984, John Jani Janardhan, where one of the sons is even a reincarnation of the father.
But what is surprising about Lingaa is the concept of the same actor playing two different roles set in two different times. It immediately reminds you of Saif Ali Khan from Love Aaj Kal. Just as Saif had romanced Deepika Padukone and Gisele Monteiro in Love Aaj Kal, Rajni will be seen romancing Anushka Shetty and Sonakshi Sinha who is making her debut in the Tamil film industry with this film.
“Rajini sir is playing double role in the film. He plays a district collector in the present day of the story, while he will be seen in a different role in the flashback sequence. The filmmakers have kept it a secret,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.
The title of the film Lingaa happens to be the name of one of Rajni’s grandsons, Dhanush and Aishwarya’s son, Lingaa. The plot of the film still remains a mystery to the people, but according to sources some part of the film has been shot in Hyderabad.
The film also features Jagapathi Babu in an important role. A. R. Rahman has composed the music of this film.
Directed by K. S. Ravikumar who is also directing Kochadaiiyan sequel Veera, Lingaa releases in theaters on December 12, on the occasion of Rajnikanth’s birthday.
