BANGALORE: Malayalam superstar Mammootty has given his fans something to cheer after the release of the trailer of his upcoming action film “Rajadhi Raja” or “The King of Kings”.
Rajadhi Raja is the directorial debut of Ajai Vasudev. The trailer suggests that it is an action-packed movie with more than one fight scene. The movie unfolds with Shekaran Kutty, played by Mammootty, being troubled by police for no fault of his and him deciding to take revenge on those who harmed his family.
Mammootty, who failed to have a blockbuster movie for some time, made a comeback through the release of the film “Manglish”, which is successfully running in theatres across the world. The trailer of “Rajadhiraja” and the August 22nd release of the film “Munnariyippu,” directed by Venu, have increased the expectations of Mammootty fans.
Rajadhi Raja is expected to hit the theatres on September 5.
In Rajadhi Raja, Mammootty plays the character of a petrol pump owner. The trailer gives an impression that a lot has been borrowed from his earlier hit movies such as “Pokkiri Raja,” “Chattambi Nadu” and “Raja Manikyam.”
The movie has Lakshmi Raai (Radha) playing opposite Mammootty, as his wife and as the mother of an 8-year-old girl. She appears to be a bold home maker wearing traditional attire throughout the film.
Lakshmi Raai and Mammoootty have successfully appeared as a pair in earlier movies such as “Annan Thambi”, “Parunthu” and “Chattambinaadu.” Raai is making a comeback in Malayalam Film after a gap of more than a year. Her last Malayalam movie was “Aaru Sundarimarude Kadha,” which was released in 2013.
The trailer gives no clue about the anti-hero of the movie, but reports from the set of Rajadhi Raja suggest that “Shakthimaan” fame Mukesh Khanna will appear as the antagonist. It will be a role shift for Mukesh Khanna, who in the past decade inspired children as the superhero Shakthimaan in the “Shakthimaan” series that he produced.
“Rajadhi Raja” also features a star-studded crew, which includes Siddique, Babu Namboothiri, Joy Mathew, Bheeman Raghu, Lena, Taniya Stanely, Joju George and Rahul Dev playing pivotal roles. The film also features Unni Mukundan and Shamna Khasim in cameo roles.
Uday Krishna and Siby K. Thoma,s who successfully scripted Mammootty films such as “Thuruppu Gulan”, “Ee Pattanathil Bhootham”, “Pokkiri Raja”, and “Kammath and Kammath,” penned the script of Rajadhi Raja. MK Naseer and Stanely CS have produced the film under the banner of Goodline Productions.
