BANGALORE: Putting an end to rumors surrounding the first Android smartphone to run on 64 bit processor, HTC has officially confirmed that the company will soon release this much-awaited model.
In an official statement, the Chinese mobile manufacturers revealed that their 64 bit model, HTC Desire 820, is a work in progress, and it will soon enter the market replacing its predecessor HTC Desire 816. The company is planning to unveil the new smartphone in the IFA 2014 event that begins on September 4.
The 64 bit architecture will feature an Octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. When the phone is officially launched, Desire 820 will be the forerunner among android devices to have a 64 bit processor.
The official page of HTC in the Chinese microblogging website Weibo has a half image of the new smartphone, but the details regarding its specifications has not yet unveiled. The image has the front facing camera of Desire 820 along with a small description saying “the first 64 bit Octa core smartphone” in Chinese.
Another image posted on the official Weibo page of Qualcomm has an Octa core processor embedded inside a smartphone. It has a small description that when translated reads “The first use of #615 #Xiaolong’s eight core 64 phones upcoming release, so stay tuned.”
Apple was the first manufacturer to come out with a smartphone that runs on a 64 bit processor and it was the iPhone 5S. But when it comes to HTC Desire 820 it runs on a mid-range chipset from Snapdragon with 8 Cortex-A53 cores paired with an Adreno 405 GPU, thus increasing the expectation of HTC releasing a mid-range smartphone.
