MUMBAI: Star of the Bollywoood film Ranjhaana, Dhanush, is on cloud nine following the success of his recent Tamil film, Velai Illa Pattathari (VIP). Directed by Velraj, it was Dhanush’s 25th film and also had Amala Paul in the lead role.
The actor, who cleverly stayed away from releasing the film in Telangana and Seemandhra, is flooded with remake offers from top Telugu banners.
He is aware that he does not have a market like Tamil stars Suriya or Vijay, whose Tamil movies dubbed into Telugu are released simultaneously in the two states.
“The VIP plot suits stars like Nithin or Ram Pothenini. It will not be a big-budget movie for sure in Telugu. But the plot can definitely ensure return on investment. The plot needs subtle changes for a Telugu movie,” said L A Vijay Kumar, a leading trader in remake movies from Hyderabad.
Apparently, there are no demand for remake rights of VIP from Malayalam and Kannada film industries and this has prompted Dhanush to part with the Telugu remake rights at the earliest. It is a norm for film-makers to sell the remake rights of movies when the demand is high. However, several top producers in the Telugu film industry are keen to buy the remake rights since it has all the ingredients for a good commercial entertainer.
The competition has become intense with most of the top producers trying hard to bag the remake rights.
The actor is presently busy shooting for his Hindi movie Shamitabh, which has Hindi film legend Amitabh Bachchan. His next movie, Anegan, directed by K V Anand, has received top billing in the market.
