WASHINGTON, DC: In Hindi, there’s this quaint expression, ‘aa bail mujhe maar’, which translates to mean ‘asking for trouble out of the blue.’ A desi man in West Hartford, Connecticut, did that, and got his just dues: he has been arrested for patronizing a prostitute and reporting a false incident.
It all started for Malik, 24, on August 28, when he allegedly asked for the services of a prostitute named Yamilet Mattei, 18, after he got in touch with her through the website backpage.com – a popular site for advertising such type of services, even though prostitution is illegal in the US. Mattei went by the name of ‘Barbie’ on the website.
What transpired next has Malik and Mattei offering different versions in the records of the West Hartford Police Department, reported The Smoking Gun,
According to the police report, Malik arranged a sexual liaison with Mattei in the afternoon, around 2 p.m., at the Smokers’ Discount World store, located in a shopping plaza in West Hartford.
Malik promised to give her cash and a hookah after completion of the sex act, which according to the police took place in the rear of the store. But upon completion of the sex act, Malik, who works at the smoke shop, refused to pay Mattei, as first reported by the Hartford Courant. An argument between the parties ensued and Mattei took three hookahs off a store shelf and departed the business with a female friend, Danielle Santos, who had driven her to the business.
The matter would have ended there but for the fact that Malik then proceeded to call 911 to report the hookah theft. According to the Gun, when accosted by the police, Mattei “freely admitted that she took the hookahs from Smoker’s Discount World because Malik was refusing to compensate her as agreed upon.” Mattei, the report notes, “stated that she took three hookahs off of the rack as compensation for the ‘blow job.’”
For his part, Malik was “verbally confrontational” and could not stick to a single story, police noted. He claimed to have hired Mattei as a “favor” for an ‘uncle’ who never showed up at the shop. In the police report, Malik describes the ‘uncle’ as not really an ‘uncle’ but somebody he knows. That desis everywhere can understand. He also asked Mattei to bring a bottle of Hennessey, from which drank at the store.
Mattei told officers that Malik described himself as a “good looking guy” and asked how much she charged for oral sex. He then inquired about the price for “bare back” sex. Later, while being fellated, Malik told Mattei that he “always wanted” to get “deep throat [from] a Puerto Rican.”
According to Malik, however, he didn’t have sex with Mattei. His ‘uncle’ was getting delayed getting to the store. Mattei got upset by the delay, he alleges. He says two other females and a Hispanic male, who knew did Mattei, came in and they took hookahs from the store. He also said that he gave $250 to Mattei and asked her to leave. Elsewhere, it’s reported in the police document that the Hispanic man grabbed the money from him, and he left the store, along with one of the women. Also, that Santos grabbed his iPhone and threw it onto the ground. That part was corroborated by Santos, who was also charged for several offences, including damaging the phone, which amounted to criminal mischief.
The police report says the officers not find any evidence of the bottle of Hennessey and the sexual act that had allegedly taken place.
The police also noted in their report that upon questioning, Malik became very confrontational with them, and started video-taping them. However, when police asked him if he had video recordings of what happened in the store earlier, he said the video recording was not working at that time.
Mattei was charged with prostitution and larceny. Malik was charged for patronizing a prostitute and reporting a false incident.
According to the Gun report, Malik’s rap sheet includes several prior arrests, including a March arrest for drug sales, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and interfering with police.
Police recovered one of the hookahs in front of the store, while the two others were found inside a Dodge Charger rented by Santos. All three were returned to the store.
Mattei and Malik now have a court hearing on September 11.
