BANGALORE: The reports about smart gadgets out-numbering desktops and laptops were a wakeup call for many manufacturers like Dell and Lenovo, in India. In order to stay alive in the industry, these companies delved into manufacturing low-cost smartphones and tablets.
Lenovo has launched a new budget level tablet, dubbed Lenovo S5000 in India at a price of Rs. 10,999. The new tablet features a 7 inch, 216 ppi full HD display with Plane Switching (IPS) technology, enabling a 178-degree wide viewing angle while watching photos and videos.
Lenovo S5000 is powered by 1.2 GHz MediaTek quad-core processor coupled with 1 GB RAM. The tablet runs on Android Jelly Bean OS out of the box, and it can be upgraded ‘Over the Air’ to Android KitKat 4.3.
Lenovo S5000 features a 5 Megapixel rear camera with auto focus and a 1.6 Megapixel front-facing camera, enabling users to take selfies and conduct video chats.
The device also sports rich connectivity features like Wi-Fi and an optional 3G connectivity for those who have difficulty in accessing Wi-Fi hotspots.
The satellite controlled GPS connectivity of Lenovo S5000 offers the user accurate guide even in areas where there is no internet access.
Lenovo S5000 has a long lasting non-removable Li-Ion 3450 mAh battery that can run internet connection for a continuous 8 hours using Wi-Fi and play HD videos for more than 6 hours.
Lenovo has partnered with Amazon India for selling S5000. It took more than a year for S5000 to reach the Indian market.
Lenovo S5000 will have to face tough competition from other tablets brands manufactured by Indian companies like Karbon’s Smart, Micromax’s Funfook and Flipkart’s Digiflip.
