MUMBAI: Malayalam actress Manju Warrier’s sterling performance in her comeback film ‘How Old Are You’ directed by Rosshan Andrrews which turned out to be a hit and established her career once again after a 15-year hiatus, continues to find fans across the length and breadth of the country.
The latest to join the fan club is Kajol, who “loved” the film and decided she absolutely wanted to do a similar role. Hubby Ajay Devgn was only too glad to oblige her, and has bought the rights to the film for a Hindi remake. The director of the film is yet to be finalized, though.
Earlier, the Tamil actor Suriya bought the Tamil rights to the film, the remake of which will star his wife Jyothika, who will herself make a comeback after seven years.
Kajol remains one of India’s favorite actresses despite her ‘quitting’ films after she married Devgn. She made a couple of mini-comebacks doing the occasional film like ‘My Name is Khan’ and as a cancer stricken mother in the 2010 film ‘We Are Family’ (adaptation of ‘Stepmom’), directed by Siddharth Malhotra. The latter is her last film till date, and which she is not too keen to remember anyway as it flopped at the box office.
Kajol got busy after with her new-born son Yug, in 2010. ‘How Old Are You’ if it materializes soon enough, will be her comeback film again. Since it’s a totally woman-oriented film, it will give her ample space to display her histrionics, since the audience first saw her and fell in love with her in the Bollywood classic ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ 19 years ago.
According to reports, ‘How Old Are You’ revolves around the 36-year-old character Nirupama (played by Manju Warrier) who works as a clerk in the Revenue Department. Her husband, Rajeev Narayanan, (Kunchako Boban), who works with a radio station, wants to immigrate to Ireland but Nirupama is unable find a job abroad. One day, she gets an opportunity to interact with the President of India but the disastrous outing makes her the target of Facebook trolls. Adding to the insults, her husband and daughter relocate to Ireland without her. What follows is a journey of self-discovery for Nirupama.

It would be much better if they released the original with subtitles.
I don’t think the Hindi remake will add anything to what is an already good film.
