NEW YORK: Sunil Kumar, the Managing Principal of Wembly Enterprises, will join Pratham USA’s national board of directors.
Pratham is one of the largest non-governmental organizations in India’s education sector. In 2013-14, it reached nearly five million children, adolescents and young adults through a range of programs in 20 of India’s 29 states.
A successful businessman and engineer, Kumar is also a Senior Advisor to Reliance Industries Limited. He has also served as CEO, President, and Board Member of International Specialty Product, as well as executive vice president and a member of the Board of Bridgestone/Firestone, according to Pratham.
Kumar has been an active supporter of Pratham NY-Tristate for a decade. He has participated in several causes dedicated to education. During his time as Chairman of SCI America, he was instrumental in starting its Scholars Program, an initiative to encourage college students to pursue careers in industrial chemistry and chemical engineering.
“I am passionate about the power of education to transform lives and am thrilled to be joining the board,” said Kumar, in a statement. “I have seen Pratham’s commitment to providing innovative solutions to learning and high-quality education opportunities to children and youth. I am looking forward to advancing their important work.”
Dinyar Devitre, Executive Chairman of Pratham USA, said in a statement: “It is my honor to welcome Sunil to our national board, especially as we approach the milestone of our 20th year.”
Devitre added: “Pratham has achieved tremendous impact over the years and as we look ahead to addressing the complex problem of improving learning outcomes, Sunil’s background as an accomplished engineer and businessman will lend a powerful perspective.”
Pratham USA’s board includes Devitre, Special Advisor to General Atlantic Partners; Vijay Goradia, Founder and Chairman of the Vinmar Group (and co-founder of Pratham USA); and CNN host Fareed Zakaria.
