Happy New Year winding down its run.

WASHINGTON, DC: Shah Rukh Khan’s magnum opus Happy New Year is not going to actually going to see the light of the new year, 2015, as it’s quickly winding down its run in theaters, after just edging past the Rs. 200 crores mark in the domestic box office.
Happy New Year has managed to a total business of Rs. 203.30 crores in India, as of returns declared by end of November 24th. It’s likely this week may be the film’s last big run at the box office, before a majority of the theaters pull it down.
But Happy New Year’s demise has not proved to be good news for Saif Ali Khan’s Happy Ending. The film did a measly business of only Rs. 13 crores on its opening weekend, suggesting a box office disaster for the Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru film, which released to high expectations.
The breakdown for the romantic comedy Happy Ending was: Friday ₹3.75 crore, Saturday ₹4.25 crore and Sunday ₹5 crore. The fact that it couldn’t pick up steam over the weekend, spells bad news for the film, which may perhaps be one of the biggest box office casualties of the year.
Happy Ending, which has Saif in a double role, also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Govinda in lead roles.
It remains to be seen of Raj Kumar Hirani’s PK with Aamir Khan will be able to come close to SRK’s Happy New Year within two weeks of its release, and would perhaps turn out to be the one film really able to say ‘Happy New Year’ cheerily to its fans.
