WASHINGTON, DC: Hark back to Student of the Year: Alia Bhatt’s moves in the hit ‘Radha’ song, which set off a frenzy of pre-teen girls trying to sequence a dance routine at small and large contests, and at home in front of a mirror, almost sunk India’s ground level by a few footsteps.
Now, in a similar religious-themed fast-paced number – which should be a popular remix number this holiday season on dance floors from New Delhi to New York – comes ‘Radha Nachegi’ song in Tevar, showcased by the svelte and sexy Sonakshi Sinha, with a horde of reportedly 100 dancers swaying along with her.
Over the years, the theme of Radha when not used in an overtly religious way in Hindi films, has proved to be popular, as masses got used to the pop bhajan culture.
From Bol Radha Bol sung by Mukesh in the film Sangam, with the character of Raj Kapoor singing the song at Vyjantimala who is clad in a swimsuit, wading in water, to the beautifully rendered Radha Kaise Na Jale by Udit Narayan and Asha Bhosle in Lagaan, it’s proved to be a hit.
Radha Nachegi, which actually can be titled also as ‘Music Bajega Loud to Radha Nechegi’, in Tevar, is composed by Sajid-Wajid and sung by Ritu Pathak.
The song is captivating for its grand dance routine also, choreographed by Remo D’Souza. The song was reportedly shot at Maheshwar Ghat in Indore, but the sets lack imagination. It’s made up, however, by graceful and energetic dance routines through the duration of the song. The theme of peacocks swirling around and unfurling its wings, as depicted by the dancers in the song, and captured by aerial shots too, is a hallmark. It reminds one of the excellent camera work from Devdas.
Sinha looks gorgeous and sexy in a white outfit, and in an interview admitted that she felt like a diva doing the dance routine for the song.
