It is almost game over for Nokia mobiles with its new patron, Microsoft, deciding to launch Lumia 535 without using its name anywhere in the smartphone that is priced at Rs. 9,199. The new Microsoft Lumia device will be available in stores across India starting Friday, November 28.
The new device is a mere upgrade of the entry level smartphone Lumia 350, which is priced at Rs. 5,377 ($87). The only major USP of the new Lumia 535 is its 5 MP front camera, which puts it in the league of smartphones popularly known as selfie-centric phones. The device can be also considered as an alternate to the company’s mid-range selfie-centric smartphone Lumia 730, which comes at a higher price of Rs. 15,000 ($243).
Unlike other selfie smartphones, the new Lumia handset doesn’t offer a high mega pixel rear camera. Microsoft has maintained the same 5 MP in the rear, and the only addition to it is a LED flash. The rear camera only allows video recording in FWVGA resolution, which is a shortcoming for a device of this price range.
The device runs on the latest version of Windows Phone operating system and Microsoft promises regular over-the-air update for the smartphone. It also has preloaded Office tools, but the hype around the mobile version of Microsoft office is less surprising as Google Play and App Store have the same listed in their repository for free download.
The wide-angle front camera of the new Lumia device can fit more people into the frame and users can access the front camera easily by using the preinstalled Lumia Selfie app, which has a host of other features, including filters and direct share to OneDrive, Instagram and Twitter.
Like Android’s Google Now and Apple’s Siri, Microsoft has enabled a personal assistance feature called Cortana in the new Lumia 535, helping people find interesting stuff in their fingertips.
The dual SIM smartphone has a 5-inch qHD IPS captive multi-touch display with Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone is powered by a 1.2 Ghz Snapdragon 200 Quad-core processor coupled with 1 GB RAM.
Apart from the OneDrive cloud storage, the device has an inbuilt storage capacity of 8 GB, expandable up to 32 GB via micro SD card.
The smartphone also has all major connectivity features including, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, Lumia Beamer and USB.
This new Lumia smartphone is backed up by a 1905 mAH battery providing a maximum talk time of 13 hours and a standby time of more than 20 days.
Lumia 535 comes in five color shades: black, white, orange, green and cyan.
