NEW YORK: India’s once beloved and in equal measure reviled politician, Arvind Kejriwal, is coming to New York City on December 7, to deliver a lecture and attend a fundraising dinner.
Kejriwal, who stormed India’s politics and quickly emerged as the messiah of hope of the masses, and avowed crusader against corruption, faded away even faster as an eccentric radical, after he let go off the reins of power in New Delhi in almost whimsical manner, earlier this year.
Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is now seeking to regain lost glory and power by contesting the upcoming Assembly polls in New Delhi.
Kejriwal arrives in New York from Dubai on December 7, where is at present, to attend the World Brands Summit. He will deliver a lecture at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs the same day, and then attend a fundraising dinner the same night, being organized by party supporters.
It’s not known for how many days Kejriwal will be in town, but some of his IIT alum and supporters are also arranging for some meet and greets with the local Indian diaspora in the Tristate area, and beyond.
AAP had received tremendous support from their supporters in the US prior to contesting the last Delhi assembly polls, and even the Lok Sabha polls. This time around, they seek reportedly around $5 million for the fresh Delhi assembly elections, and hope to again get generous support from their supporters in the US.
