Teasers, hype beginning to get stale.

WASHINGTON, DC: The teasers started out as promising, with the poster of a nude Aamir Khan covered by a radio piquing an entire nation.
The massive secrecy behind the film’s story line, and the expertly managed promotions and teasers made it seem as if the duo of Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan were on to an amazing script and subject matter, with startling dialogues and acting never before seen in the history of Indian cinema.
But as the teasers become a cascade of promos as the film’s screening deadline approaches, it’s become apparent that the audience could also be in for a massive let-down.
It’s one thing to keep the interest of audiences alive with the promise of a unique product, it’s quite another to disappoint them with the product. It could quickly turn out into an embarrassing joke. Remember the case of Arvind Kejriwal, from hero to zero before you could say the line?
In yet another teaser video launched on YouTube, with a song titled ‘Nanga Punga Dost’, it’s beginning to look like Aamir is still in the Dhoom 3 mode, with both of his dual expressions intact from those avatars, and perhaps he has only a few dialogues to say in the film. He looks at times mentally challenged or a retard from outer space, in the promos.
The song itself would be more suited for a children’s film, evoking images of a child in the nude with a mother crooning as she prepares him for a soapy bath. Except it’s a grown ass man like Aamir who features in it, with Anushka at times watching him as a mother would at her child’s naughty antics, and at times dancing with him on a terrace, drunk.
And, the problem with so much hype is that if the film proves to be even half as good as people expect, it will still be dismissed as ‘bakwaas’.
Sorry Aamir…if that happens, not your fault, we will blame it on Rajkumar Hirani.
