The Indian American was confirmed on Tuesday.
Richard Verma, who was confirmed as the new US ambassador to India, met with President Obama at the White House on Thursday. Verma, the first Indian American to be nominated as America’s top envoy in India, was confirmed by the US Senate by unanimous voice votes on Tuesday. The former assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs at the State Department was nominated as the ambassador in September. All indications are that Verma will arrive in New Delhi ahead of Obama’s visit to the city for India’s Republic Day celebrations in late January.
