Rohit Sharma’s knock of 264 a big hit

BENGALURU: Twitter, the third largest social networking site only next to Facebook and Google+, released the annual report of the most trending activities of 2014 in India and across the globe.
According to the report, Narendra Modi’s tweet “India Has won! भारत की विजय। अच्छे दिन आने वाले हैं।” which he tweeted moments after BJP came victorious in the 2014 Lok Sabha election went on to become India’s Golden Tweet of the year with over 70,500 retweets and 46,500 favourites.
When it comes to the most trending conversations on Twitter India, Rohit Sharma’s knock of 264 against Sri Lanka in the one-day match at Eden Gardens topped the list followed by Rajinikanth joining twitter, Narendra Modi’s appeal to all BJP candidates to refrain from making provocative comments during the election campaign and the 2014 season of Pepsi IPL.
The report also rates the top 3 fastest rising trends of 2014. The football World Cup in Brazil topped the list with hashtag #WorldCup2014, followed by the mysterious disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 that became viral with the hashtag #MH370 and the Muffler Man campaign unleashed by the Am Aadmi Party fans in support of Arvind Kejriwal that featured hashtag #MufflerMan.
Coming to the most followed personalities in India, the first 4 positions were sealed by Bollywood celebrities, with Amitabh Bachchan topping the list amassing 11.8 million followers, followed by Shah Rukh Khan with 10.2 million, Aamir Khan with 9.8 million and Salman Khan with 9.4 million followers.
The fifth most followed personality in India is PM Narendra Modi who has more than 8.4 million followers. Modi is the only political personality to be listed in the Top 10 and his rise to the 5th spot was the fastest by an Indian, accelerating at a growth rate of 54.45%, which in numbers translates to 4.6 million new followers in 2014.
