Sonu Nigam and Bickram Ghosh also make the cut.

WASHINGTON, DC: AR Rahman, the most renowned face internationally of modern Indian music, and who has two Oscars under his belt, is in contention once again, at the 87th Oscars with three of his compositions from films this year making it in the long list of 114 scores which have been announced.
Rahman had earlier cemented his place in the history of music with a golden double win at the Oscars, for his scores in Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ in 2009. He won for his best original score as also the best original song ‘Jai Ho’ which featured lyrics by Gulzar. The song became a cult sensation around the world, and a signature tune of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, signifying the exuberant rise of the underdog.
Rahman was in contention in 2011 too, when he received two nominations for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, for his original score in Danny Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’ as well as the original song ‘If I Rise’ for the same film.
Now, Rahman is in contention for next year’s awards for three of his films: ‘Million Dollar Arm’, ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’ and ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ . The three scores for the films are part of the long list released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Friday.
The final nominations shortlist for the prestigious awards will be announced January 15, 2015, while the presentation ceremony will be held February 22, 2015.
Also making it to the long is singer Sonu Nigam and percussionist Bickram Ghosh with their score for ‘Jal’.
