BENGALURU: After a “pro term order” was announced yesterday by the Delhi High court allowing the sales of Qualcomm-based Xiaomi devices, its retail partner in India, Flipkart today opened the registration window for the sales of Redmi 1S.
According to Flipkart, the sales of Redmi 1S will commence on December 23rd and only users who register in advance will get a chance to participate in the flash sale.
Last week, before the ban on Xiaomi handsets, Flipkart had started the sales of Redmi 1S. Even users who did not register got a chance to own the device, but this luxury was short lived as Flipkart was forced to close the sale after the ruling of Delhi High court came on the same day.
The registration window for the next sale of Redmi 1S will be open till December 22nd midnight and the sale will commence on December 23rd at 2 PM IST.
However, Flipkart cannot sell the latest model of Xiaomi smartphone, the Redmi Note 3G, as it runs on a MediaTek processor, which doesn’t have the patent of Ericsson. But the 4G LTE version of Redmi Note is expected to go on sales soon as it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.
In a letter to Indian Mi fans, the Vice President of Xiaomi, Hugo Barra said:
“Dear Mi fans,
Last week, we were forced to suspend sales in India due to an order passed by the Delhi High Court. Thanks for the overwhelming support so many of you have shown to Mi India in response to that!
We are happy to announce that the Delhi High Court today issued a ruling in our favor, allowing us to resume sales in India subject to certain terms.
The good news is that Redmi 1S is coming back next week and we’ll be having our next sale on Tuesday, December 23. Registration will start shortly — keep an eye on the Mi India page for details!
We will also be resuming sales of Redmi Note shortly, with the 4G model this time. More details on that very soon stay tuned!
