2 films releasing same day – unprecedented for an Indian-origin star.

WASHINGTON, DC: The Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel is likely to have a dream run on March 6, 2015, with two top notch films featuring him to be released on that day, an unprecedented event for an Indian-origin star.
From the time of his debut in the Academy award winning film Slumdog Millionaire, Patel has turned out to be the most watched and favorite desi face in the West, including in the UK and the US.
Now, after the news of the much awaited sequel ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ – which has already been chosen to be the screener for the annual royal gala in the UK and guarantees in the process a bumper showing at the box office there – which will be out in the US theaters on March 6, comes the news that the sci-film thriller film on artificial intelligence ‘Chappie’ starring Patel in a key role will be out also in theaters the same day.
Engineered as a security drone for Johannesburg’s militarized police force in a crumbling, not-so-distant-future South Africa, the bipedal technocreation, a robot who goes bad is experimentally rebooted by an idealistic scientist (played by Patel) to feel and think for itself, becoming a kind of bulletproof Pinocchio in the process in ‘Chappie’, reported Entertainment Weekly. But when a pair of street thugs kidnap the droid, Chappie—as they christen him—gets a fresh set of directives: carjacking, Glock-popping, and a vocabulary of misunderstood hood-isms, such as “What’s up, f—mother?”
For co-writer/director Neill Blomkamp, the $50 million Chappie functions less as a glimpse into the future than a “weird coming-of-age story” Weekly noted.
