BENGALURU: The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is reportedly working on a new smartphone with dual-edge display; a possible look-alike of Galaxy Note Edge.
According to the Chinese website GizmoChina, the yet to be announced device is named Xiaomi Arch and when launched the device will be the world’s first phone with dual curved display.
The image of the device posted by the website indicates that the device is in its concept stage and hopefully Xiaomi will launch the device in 2016.
South Korean manufacturer Samsung had earlier launched the single-edge display smartphone, Galaxy Note Edge. The new edge design offers users new ways to access information and to enjoy their mobile user experience by engaging more with the device.
The new edge smartphones will also allow users to express their personal choices. Moreover, the edge design will give users instant access to their favourite apps, alerts and functionalities. The notifications also get stored in the edges of the phone making gaming and video experience distraction free.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is planning to launch a new smartphone in 2015. The new model which has already taken shape in the warehouse of Xiaomi is yet to be named. It is anticipated that the device will be named either Mi 5 or Mi 4S so as to be in sync with the Mi series launched till now. Also, there are reports that Xiaomi is planning to launch an upgrade for its MiPad. The images of Mi 5 or Mi4S and MiPad 2 were recently spotted on a few Chinese websites.
The leaked images of Mi 5 or Mi 4S gives an impression that the device has a bigger screen than Mi 4 and comes with a Sapphire glass display instead of the now widely used Corning Gorilla glass. Earlier there were reports that Xiaomi had placed orders for 50,000 units of sapphire glass cover protectors.
Possible technical specification of the Mi 5 phablet and MiPad 2
The Mi 5 or Mi 4S is rumored as a 5.7 inch Quad HD 1440×2560 pixel resolution smartphone powered by a 64 bit Snapdragon 810 coupled with 3 GB RAM. The device is expected to feature a 20.7 MP rear camera and 32 GB internal storage capacity.
The yet to release upgraded version of Xiaomi MiPad tablet called the MiPad 2, will feature Intel chipset (1.8GHz) coupled with 2GB of RAM. The 7.9-inch display has a pixel resolution of 2048×1536 and has a built-in storage capacity of 16GB. Both the Mi 5 smartphone and the MiPad 2 will run on MIUI on top of Android KitKat OS.
