Vegetarians, too, will love White Castle now.

WASHINGTON, DC: White Castle, the American fast food chain made famous by a Hollywood film, and notorious for its beef sliders, put a veggie burger on its menu on Tuesday.
The burger joint became popular globally by the 2004 film “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle,” which follows two stoners on a trip to White Castle when they get the munchies. So it hasn’t traditionally been a haven for the health conscious, reported CNN Money.
But customers were asking for a meat alternative, said Susan Milazzo, the chain’s New York regional director, the report said.
The veggie burger sells for 99 cents in New York City, slightly more than the original beef slider that goes for 77 cents.
The veggie patty itself is the Dr. Praeger’s brand, which features whole vegetables. They will be cooked on veggie burger-only grills and flipped with separate green spatulas, Milazzo said. But they’ll come on the same White Castle bun.
Quartz reported that the chain has been experimenting with a vegetarian version of its signature menu item all year. The new veggie sliders had been set to go on sale at all White Castle locations on January 1, but the company has decided to unleash the new sliders two days early.
White Castle VP Jamie Richardson told Quartz that the rationale for adding veggie sliders to the menu was about making sure that, when a group of friends goes to White Castle, there’s something for everybody.
“Going to White Castle is often a group activity,” he says. “Our thought was let’s give [the vegetarians] something to eat other than french fries.”
Actor Kal Penn, who played the role of Kumar in the film, actually is a vegetarian, and reportedly consumed veggie sliders instead of the beef ones while shooting the film. The veggie sliders debuting today will bear no relation to the ones used on the Harold and Kumar set, Richardson told the Columbus Dispatch in September.

Vegetarian stoners get the munchies too. I had 6 of them, although I was there dead sober at adult hours, and only had 6, I think it is safe to say that they are … not bad. And, for the WC executives reading, it was my first visit to WC in decades, your fiendish plot worked.
